I just upgraded my 76' Champ to a Kendrick black frame 8, and am very pleased with the improvement, so now I'm thinking maybe time to upgrade my 57' Deluxe ri from the stock Jensen p12q ri to a Weber 12A125A. This would be 8 ohm, 30 w, but wondering about doping? light? none? also opinions on this possible switch, I would like a close match in tone to the real oringinal 50's tweed deluxe.

If you want to match the tone of an original '57 Deluxe Amp, find yourself a real Jensen P12Q. Have it re-coned to spec if necessary.

They're out there......you just have to find one.

Aside from finding an original, you don't feel this Weber speaker would be a big improvement over the stock Jensen ri?

Probably.

But the Weber is merely a hand job.

A real Jensen OTOH is pure pu$$y.

Like Curly of "City Slickers", you've discovered 'the one secret'.

Yes......the very ones I mentioned.

Clean baskets and dust-free cones such as with those particular speakers usually indicate that they are organ pulls. As such, it's likely that they've never been driven hard or otherwise abused.

Let us know how it sounds.

I will, and again, thanks for your advice! never thought one so clean would be available, and for less than a top of the line Weber.

Post your impressions once the Jensen arrives and you have it installed.

Personally, I would've been *very* tempted to buy them both.

Speaker arrived today, just in time for a long weekend, first impression is really clean! looks almost as new as the reissue, just a bit duller in color, I will post a couple pics before installation.1958 P12Q on left.Image
