I recently bought a 65 DRRI Fudge Brownie Limited Edition which is my first Fender amp and I am loving' it!

I do like to use reverb but only at low settings, usually around 2 or 3, and never go above 4 on the dial. Can the total amount of reverb on tap be reduced by changing the driver tube to either a 12AY7 or a 12AU7 so that I have a greater range on the dial available to me? If so, what tube is recommended and how much change will it make?

This guy, http://reitzel.com/schematics/Fender_De ... ations.pdf
says he used a 12AU7 for the reverb driver to good effect.

Use only a 12AU7 or 12AT7. The 12AY7 prolly can't handle the current passed in the reverb driver of most Fender amps.

The new Tungsol 12AU7W/6189 is a very nice tube.

After much thought I decided not to buy a 12AU7 but I did try a NOS Philips 12AT7WC as my reverb driver and it has completely tamed my reverb. I can only think that the stock Groove Tubes GT-12AT7 had too much gain.

Before buying my DRRI in March I had never used Groove Tube tubes and I have to say my experience with them is not good. V4 was a bad when I bought the amp (microphonic), V1 very quickly became excessively noisy and now V3 seems to have too much gain.
