ok..hmmm. ..lets ask it this way....On the Fender Blues Deluxe Reissue amp, If I put an audio taper pot in the drive and master position will it make the drive channels volume more controllable instead of sounding wide open on 2-3

Blues Deluxe reissue schematic show a audio pot in Drive position .

Master position do not use Audio pot

swap out the 12ax7 preamp tube in the v1 slot for a 12ay7 and your problem is solved.. also, volume pedal will work as well.

after reading about the schematic reply...a little light went on....I went back and looked at the instruction options that came with the modding kit for the amp. According to Fromel electronics (where I got the mod kit for the amp)....you can use an audio pot in the master position...so if there already is one in the drive...then i guess i got my answer... :D

You can use audio pot everywhere .

But this is not magic for your need .

Speaker attenuator is very useful and do the job

just got an email from fromel electronics saying an audio in the master wouldnt do much if i have the drive up high and i have that around 6. so I had an old Danelectro (fish & chips) eq pedal. I ran that in the preamp /power amp jacks...brought the volume of the pedal down low with the eq set at flat..and it works pretty good....got the amp up higher on the volume controls..and my ears arent bleeding....(I also have a Marshall Power Soak to try someday) :)

You replaced the stock 250K audio taper volume pot with a 100K audio taper pot, and this is supposed to "tame the clean channel"?

Forget about mods your amps , most of all did not do what you are looking for . You just need a good speaker attenuator you will use with any amp.

I often read , many years ago, Marshall Power Soak is not very good for a amp.

Don't know if it is true.

Like I said b4, a reply from Fromel said that with the drive up an audio pot in the Master position wont do much. (this is where the eq pedal idea came into play)
Well the kit for modding was purchased and installed...even b4 I started this thread...all i know is the clean channel is good, the drive channel is good.. both have a much better tone, theres a Texas Heat spkr that came with the Ebay amp along with Ruby ceramic power tube sockets and Ruby power tubes. To bring the volume down to earth, I am running a Danelectro "Fish & Chips" eq pedal through the pre/power amp jacks on top. I run this flat in a neutral position and have the pedal volume cut all the way. With a boss CS-3 , NS-2. and a Ibanez Tube Screamer I am in my own little heaven. I have an amp that is controllable and sounds awesome.....future mods planned is a better reverb tank...I'll do a Utube video for that in the near future... As far as the Marshall Power Soak goes...I have heard that people have had problems...but its my guess those were running the amp wide open and trying to get it softer....thats really pushing an amp and anything can let go when u do that...a friend of mine has had only power soaks and never had a problem....so if I only try to cut a few db instead of a massive amount I would think its safe....but I dont need it now....recap?..the Fomel Electronics kit made the amp sound amazing...the eq pedal brought the volume down to a usable level.. 8)
