I have a Hotrod Dlx III, and am going to be ordering some tubes from Eurotubes based on recommendations from this forum. I will be getting a 5751 for V1 and a 12AT7 for V3. What I am not sure of is this: Do I get the standard JJ 5751 and 12AT7, or the gold pin, or the balanced or the matched triode or the balanced and matched? I'm fairly new to tube amps, so your guidance is much appreciated.

The tube in V1 doesn't need to be balanced. Only the V3 phase inverter works in tandem
The gold pin ECC83 is a low noise tube and will improve improve tone by reducing noise masking. I don't know if the 5751 and 12AT7 gold versions are low noise as well, but I would expect so.
Maybe someone else will confirm that.
The low noise coating on the plates is a little lighter color than the standards. It also seems to have more cracks in the coatings at the top and bottom of the plate dimples. It's not a problem, but just an identifier of the better and, perhaps, more brittle coatings.

Matching the 3 tubes wouldn't get you very far.
Using a balanced tube for V3 is a standard upgrade .
If you can afford it, go for the gold all the way around.

Thanks for the great info. According to Eurotubes, the 5751 and 12AT7 are low noise tubes. Unfortunately, the gold pin 12AT7 is out of stock and I could not find them at either Tube Depot or Antique Audio Supply. I will most likely go ahead and order the gold 5751 and the regular balanced 12AT7. Thanks again for the info.

You would be fine with standard pins, you really don't need to get gold pins and a balanced tube for the inverter unless you want to spend extra money!!

Gold Lion (Russian made) has 6922 (E88CC), 12AT7 (B739), 12AU7 (B749) in gold pin versions. You usually pay about $5 to get a tube with "matched" triodes.

I have the GL 6922 in my headphone amp. A very good tube.

I ordered these on Saturday. They shipped Monday, and I should have them either tomorrow or Thursday.

ECC81 Balanced
