:( Tried to replace the Fender Special Design 12 inch Eminence speaker (4 bolt mount), with a Celestion g12h 30, but found the four mounting holes did not line up. Would need to drill out new holes in speaker frame to make this installation work. Is this typical of such a replacement, going from one manufacturer to another?

Yep. The actual hole in the basket is elongated, and sometimes the gasket, or edge of the speaker cone, is in the way of the screw.

I would drill the baffle before drilling the speaker.

I got an inquiry from Celestion, as a emailed both Celestion and Fender (no response). They were a bit surprised but I explained the following; The BCD was clearly different. I could just barely line up two holes and then the other two were not in sight of the drilled speaker frame, too far in and away to simply enlarge the holes. It meant drilling four new holes after making a pattern template. Even then, since it was a much smaller BCD I am not sure the frame would have material where the holes would need to go. I was not willing to create special fasteners, nor drill the frame to find out I was wrong about the spacing. I sold the speaker on ebay at a loss. Very frustrating, it was an "International" manufactured model and on sale at Musician's Friend (Fiend). Tell's you about quality control and "sale" items, or does it as the hole diameter on the speaker were to specification as measured by me, so is it that Fender has done something different with the SuperSonic 22 baffle mount, making it exclusive for their Special Design speaker?

The Fender Special Edition Lightning Bolt Speaker in the Super-Sonic 22 is the exact same speaker Fender now uses in the Blues Junior III. I know lots of folks are swapping out the stock BJr speaker so I would think it would work for Super-Sonic as well.

Billm's website has a list of speakers that, for whatever reason, wont fit in the BJr. Maybe there is such a list somewhere for Super-Sonic?

The speakers not fitting in the BJr has to do with clearance between speaker magnet/housing and the chassis components, and nothing to do with mounting holes.

I suspect the OP speaker mounting holes are fine, and he just doesn't realize how to get the screws past the obstruction in the holes.

I've suspected the same since first reading this thread.
