Hi all - I'm looking at buying a 65 Princeton Reverb Reissue, but have a question about the nature of the amp. I owned a DRRI, and found the vibrato to be a bit sterile, a bit "on/off" for my liking. I sold it, and later discovered that, here in the EU, the circuit has been altered to comply with RoHS rules, ie. a digital circuit instead of an opto coupler. As the Princeton circuit uses a "bias-vary" tremolo, I'd like to know if the circuit of the reissue for sale here in Europe is the same as that in the US? I've searched for info online, but the difference in circuits between the US and European models doesn't seem to be very widely known.

I'm specifically talking about the '65 PRRI, not the '68. I presume the Fudge Brownie edition will be the same? Ideally, I'd love a genuine silverface, but at more than double the price of the reissue, that ain't gonna happen. Any input appreciated, thanks.

The new circuit is not "digital", just solid state, but it works exactly like the old circuit in the originals, providing isolation between the tube oscillator and the signal path, and it's the same circuit here in the US. The DR was never a bias wiggle circuit like the PR, so any DR is going to sound pretty much the same as far as the tremolo.

If you want a DR with the older opto-isolator, it would have to be an older amp, built before the circuit change, but there will not really be any perceptible difference in the tremolo operation.

As for the PR, they are all made here in the US, and since the tremolo circuit is the bias wiggle type, there is no opto-isolator, therefore no need for a new circuit to replace it.

Por favor, disculpe mi español, no se llega a la práctica con mucha frecuencia.
