Last week I started having problems with my BDRI. It'll be fine for the first 15 minutes or so of playing but after that it just cuts out and won't make sound until I wait a bit and try again. It seems like it is overheating but it's never had that problem before and I can't find any information on the internet.
-I bought the amp new in September 2012.
-Last month I replaced the stock speaker with an Eminence Cannabis Rex.
-In doing so I had a hard time returning the circuitboard to its place since it is made to fit very tightly in the frame. Some of the conductive tape on one side was peeled off and got folded over in the process. This is the only thing I could think of that might be the problem.
Any help?

i had a similar problem with mine, my bdri would run for 5 or 10 minutes and then would cut out. i thought it was tubes but turned out to be a bad speaker jack. it's a switch craft stereo jack, i just changed it and the amp hasn't let up yet. don't know if it was bent or just a bad manufacture, who knows. switch craft is known for making good stuff so that's what i replaced it with. try and see.

In addition to the speaker jack being faulty, it very well could be one of the power tubes. I would think that you keep an extra set of tubes on hand and I would start there by replacing the tubes just to see if that resolves the issue. Keep us posted.

One bad output tube wouldn't cause a total loss of sound, and doubtful that a bad tube(s) would be intermittent. The folded over shielding tape shouldn't cause any problem as long as none of it is touching the circuit board.

The speaker cable or jack sounds like a reasonable place to check first.

My next thought is a possible poor solder joint on one of the connections from the power transformer, maybe made worse from removing and reinserting the chassis (flexing the circuit board). Personally, if the speaker cable/jack are OK, I would pull the main circuit board and have a look at all of the solder joints closely.

I had one BDlx on my bench that cut out like that after I did a lead dress, and it was a cracked solder joint where the PT connects to the main board. The solder joint was weak already, and when I unplugged the leads and plugged them back in, that probably caused the weak joint to fail.

Look for something like this one, on the left. The one on the right is bad also, just not as apparent. touch up any questionable joints.

Thanks so much for the help guys. I'm going to try replacing the speaker cable first and if that doesn't work I'll take it apart and check the solder.
I was going to replace the tubes at some point anyway so I might try that as a last resort, although it doesn't seem likely.

Where can I find a new speaker cable? Everything just seems to to be 1/4" to 1/4". I need 1/4" to two prongs to connect to the speaker. I'm assuming it should be made to carry electrical current?

Just cut off one plug, strip the isolation, and crimp two blade connectors on.

Okay, so the problem seemed to have been solved for awhile after I replaced the speaker cable but it came back so I ordered new tubes. All tubes have been replaced now and the problem still persists. I looked at the circuit board and there's no way I could take it off to check the solder myself. I have a gig I really need it for in a couple weeks so no time to take it to an amp tech.
Is placing a fan behind it going to help you think?

No.

You should have plenty of time to let a tech take care of it, it could be done in an hour. How silly will you look when your amp cuts out on stage?

At this point, I think you have done all you can do and now the amp needs to go into the hands of a skilled technician. If you're in the practice of gigging out, you should strongly consider a back up amp and a solid state one at that.

I always took two amps with me when gigging -- both of them tube models.

The only time the spare ever got used was when our other guitarist's rig took a dump......

It was a solid-state Marshall combo.

I took it to a technician last week and somehow they couldn't replicate the issue. Sure enough when I bring it home it break within 5 minutes. Anyway, I don't have time to drive over an hour away again.
Two ideas...
1) Could I switch to the external speaker jack on the inside of the amp and see if that works any better or is there a problem with that?
2) OR could this be a faulty speaker?

The external jack only works in conjunction with the main jack, you can not use only the external jack. Wherever you took your amp, never go there again. It is not necessary to replicate the issue to troubleshoot an intermittent problem. Any tech worth their salt should be able to find a poor solder joint. The "tech" should have checked the jacks and pulled the main board to inspect the solder joints. Checking the board that the tubes connect to is even easier, as the solder joints are on top and easily visible for inspection.

It is easy enough to unplug the internal speaker and plug an external speaker into the main jack to check the speaker. I doubt if the speaker is the problem. The vast majority of intermittent problems as you've described are caused by poor solder joints.

+1000

Was it an authorized Fender service center?

It was a certified technician. I took it to Mannella Guitars in Verona, PA.
They told me they ran the amp on standby for 8 hours straight one day and didn't have a problem. I told them there needed to be actual signal coming through the amp so he said he played it for 15 minutes and there was no problems. I said it had to be longer than that but he refused and told me to drive there so I could personally replicate the problem because they had wasted too much time on the amp to warrant looking further into an issue that was apparently not there.
I drove all the way there and back and when I got home it broke within 5 minutes.
I asked if he checked the solder joints, he said he didn't see anything but dodged the question when I asked if he actually took the control board off and looked. He told me people on forums don't know what they're talking about.
Keep in mind I wasted 5 hours driving and an entire tank of gas to have nothing done. Clearly I won't be back.
Arjay your signature is perfect.
