You know, I thought that it actually did sound better after awhile of playing it. I thought maybe it was my imagination, but wasn't sure, until now. :D I even tried 2 other types of output tubes and ended up sticking with the original. Great little amp. Thanks ABS!

Thanks for the tip ABS, I will keep it stock and let it break in. If I can get a good clean tone, I'll be a happy camper. I have a solid state Marshall MG15 for the bluesbreaker stuff. 8)

At the moment it is my only amp and I love it. Looking for a good OD pedal to put in front.

Also thinking of purchasing a VOX AC4 as a counter part to the Champ.

i don't need more than 5 watts for my solo basement performances.

I have had a Frontman 25R on order since the middle ages. Does anyone have both the Champ 600 and the Frontman 25R that could give me their impression of how they compare? I usually use a G-Dec 3 30 watt and I wanted the 25R for travel (hotel rooms) and the back yard. I have seen some youtube videos of the Champion 600 and I am wondering how these two amps compare tone wise and volume wise???

yea, after research that looks like the one.

Has anyone changed the grill cloth on their Champ and how much of a difference did it make? and how difficult was it?

I have had one for a couple of years and also love the little guy. Mine is still stock. I have used several pedals with great results: Keeley BD-2, Boss TR-2,
Boss RV-3, Boss FRV-1, and my current favorite, a Tech21 Blonde.

Anytime my brother. I have found that a lot of folks mod before they even break in the stuff only to be frustrated. I can't imagine ever changing anything on this little tone machine.:)

I just picked up a 600 last week.
Great little amp.
I have a reissue 57 Champ and a Blues Junior NOS, and the 600 holds it's own well. Very vintage sounding. I like the extra gain.

Well, I've Been playing My Champ 600 for a couple of weeks now, And Thanks Airbornstrat and shimmilou, It seems to be sounding better the more I play it. I keep it at about 6 and it's got a great sound with the top three positions. (I have a humbucker in the bridge) I use the neck pickup or the neck and middle for blues, and the middle alone for more of a funk sound. What a great little amp.It continues to suprise me. I cant help but wonder about the tubes though, Mine came with the Chinese tubes. I wonder if changing to Phillips or JJ's would be a wise choice. I don't want a Whole lot of gain, just a little snarl when the guitar is on 10 and to clean up around 7. I noticed ABS, you said you put the original tubes back in, Were the Chinese tubes stock in yours? 8)

Yes, mine had a Chinese output tube stock (Groove Tube preamp). I tried both a JJ6V6S and an EH6V6GT, both were brighter and more clear than the stock tube, with a little less volume and I thought that the breakup was not quite as warm as the Chinese tube. There wasn't a huge difference with the other tubes, but noticeable. Although I did like the sound of the other tubes, they changed the tone of the amp a little bit away from the 50s Champ sound. I just liked the kind of "muddy" warm sound of the stock tube better, so I put it back in. Some of the amps came with an EH output tube, and some came with a Chinese tube. I may be one of the few that liked the Chinese tube. :)

Hey all, had to join this board and celebrate my little C600!

Been playing nearly 20 years and was impressed with this little fella when I tried it about 18months ago. I mainly use mine mic'd up and then also record a dry signal through a DI box into my desk...

Also use my modded GCB95 crybaby wah (True bypass, tone mods, and hand wound inductor) and that's all I need.

Have decided to try changing the tubes though and opted for an RCA 6v6 (USA) and a Mazda 12AX7 (UK) - both NOS and ordered today.

Cant wait for them to turn up. :D

Think I'd ather just build another cab then change the stock speaker - may steal my little brothers' MG30DFX, gut it, and put it to good use with a new speaker!

EDIT: OOOOOHHHH YEEEAAHHH! Jensen P10R in a gutted MG30DFX!!! http://www.hotroxuk.com/p10r-jensen-spe ... 605-0.html

I´m willing to get rid of my Fender FM25DSP for the Champion 600 ! Do I have something to loose ? I´m not a metalheadbanger, I´m only into blues, gilmour and hendrix tones for pratice bedroom levels. I´ll use a Digitech RP255 along with that.

ART Tube MP Studio Mic Preamp $29.99

Would this ART between my RP255 and the CHAMP600 help the tone in any way ?

or this maybe ?
