Following on from the above, the speaker is off set as far as I can get it without touching the main boxing. As a result it partially sits behind the front aperture frame.

I am not convinced this is much of a big deal but does give me an excuse to consider converting the box to an original 50's tweed version of the type prior to the brown and cream TV type. :-)

I just bought one of these. What a groovy little amp. Love the high input break up when I play my Tele through it. This little thing is a real gem.

Everyone should have at least one (or two in my case  )

For UK users I can't help but recommend the hum cancelling kit by Nigel Briggs (ebay seller "alnicomagnet"). It pretty well kills the mains hum. After that the sundry modification that are available (and well demonstrated on YouTube) can turn this amp from a gem into a classic. And it is so small.

Mine is used mainly as a night time coffee table amp for when SWMBO is working nights, so doesn't really get cranked....which is a shame. It, none the less, reproduces such subtlety in the way you play that I feel it has improved my technique dramatically.

Just bought one of these off craigslist. Owner said it worked fine. Got it home, plugged it in, rattle indicative of a bad tube. Had it on playing if for maybe 4 minutes then ... POOF. It died. The power light was no longer illuminated and I could smell the faint smell of smoke from crispy burnt electronics.

How do I know if the tube just blew vs. a more serious problem?

Hell Dude, that's really bad luck. I don't know that a bad tube would be accompanied by the smell of smoke as they are enclosed.

Sounds like you need to open the amp up to have a look but BE CAREFUL.

Don't touch any of the components unless you have discharged the capacitors. You can get a shock exceeding 400 Volts even with the amp unplugged.

The suggestion is you keep one hand in your pocket so you don't run the risk of a shock across the heart.

Cracked it open. Nothing looks apparently burned out to the untrained eye. Took some photos. Any ideas, anyone???

Update ... reassembled it and plugged it back in. Turned it on and the LED light came on but there is no smell and no sound now.

Just kidding, after 5 minutes hot smell was very apparent. Faint glow in power tube. No sound. Turned it off.

The doesn't seem to be anything obviously wrong with the board. I would clip the zip tie and check the wires aren't shorting on the components below. BE CAREFUL!

After that you are only left with tubes and transformers. The tubes didn't look very happy. Do you have any spares you could swap?

CAREFULLY switch it on while open and see if you can see where it is smoking perhaps?
