I have changed my tubes to an EH 12ax7 and a Tung Sol 6v6. A very noticeable difference. Then a new baffle board made of 1/4 inch birch ply. Finally a new grill cloth. Total with tubes is $40.00. I might change the speaker in the near future just enjoying my "new" champ 600.Image

This is good news and good business. I wonder if Epiphone will resurrect its' iteration of this genre. I have a ordered a Bugera V-5. I am on line for when they get back in stock. Amazon was making me an offer I couldna refuse. I like the reverb option, as well as the tone and gain.

I heard the Champion 600 and it is a fine amp. This should make mercurymagnetics happy too. provided they didn't curtail production. This must be a fresh decision on Fenders part. The big outlets do not have it in stock and treat is as discontinued.

Hey guys,

Love my Champion 600. I replaced the stock speaker with a Jensen Mod 6/15 and JJ tubes. The only issue mine has the pilot light sometimes doesn't work. At times it will flicker and go out while playing and other times it works fine. Not sure if the led needs to be replaced. If it does, I can't find any info on what size or rating to get. Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar issue with there's. Thanks.

Here's mine - OK, different skin, but the same amp!
I really enjoy it, especially driven hard. At first was getting a flapping noise when I pushed it, but discovered after MANY months that there is a velcro strap inside for coiling the power cord - it had been loose and flapping at higher volumes.
Love to play the Tele through it, sounds good with a humbucker equipped guitar also.
Surprisingly, it sounds good with an acoustic/electric at small room volumes.

I just picked up one of these and fell in love with it. I also thought it was a little thin sounding and I read a lot of articles to modify the amp. I discovered a much simpler solution, Boss EQ pedal. It made the tone really pop out. This little amp has made me completely rethink my rig and amp choices. :)

Has anyone changed the power jewel on their 600 reissue? I was thinking about changing mine out with an amber one. I have an extra green jewel but it does not fit I think it is for a bassman.

I am in the user and owner group for this little amp. It is great for both guitar and lap steel.

I think the jewels Fender uses on these amps are imports- which means the threads are metric, and a standard USA Fender jewel will not fit. I have run into this on other amps brands as well. I have looked for an import/metric jewel for several years, but haven't found any yet, for sale to the public.

Indeed so, and has the advantage of still being available new.

I bought my 600 off ebay and found it perfect for my lounge noodelings although, being from the UK, it did suffer from mains hum. Apparently UK issue amps are set for 230V not 240V which results in a higher B+ voltage and results in a lot of hum, even with the volume at 0.

Chasing the hum I purchased a kit from Nigel Briggs (Alnicomagnet).

Nigel's instructions are extensive to say the least; well written and, with the links he provides to a gallery in drop box, easy to follow.

Phase 1 - Mains Hum suppression.
This has included an AC to DC heater filament supply conversion mod, and an HT supply filter and voltage drop mod. I have also fitted a standby switch, HT fuse and relocated the transformer.

The mods have rendered the amp almost humless and have the added advantage of standby switching to protect the tube.

Encouraged by the above I have pruchased another 600 off ebay to give me a reference point prior to undertaking the following voicing modifications.

This mainly includes mods to the tone stack to give 5E1 voicing but I am also adding a switch to C10 to give 5F1 voicing.

I will also add a switch to R7 to switch in or out the negative feedback and allow earlier and more linear break up as a result.

The final mod is the fitting of a pentode/triode switch. This is perhaps the most tricky as it involves modifying some of the finer tracks on the board.

Not having undertaken the above tone mods yet I have no idea how effective they will be. I will probably run them with the switches mounted remotely in the first instance as I don't want to make holes in the front panel unnecessarily it they don't work as desired.

Pentode/diode or pentode/triode?

Indeed....just checking to see who's paying attention. You win the prize of a two wheel tricycle and a model of dinosaur with gender issues - a Biseratops.

PS. Well spotted, I have now edited my (not so deliberate) mistake. Cheers.
