Just think when Dumble decides to enter the small amp market......a one-lung, class A, porch weasel for five grand!

I'll order two......(in case the first one breaks).

Hello, Champion users. Just wanted to say I joined your ranks today and I literally could not be happier with my decision. I recently sold off all my pedals, "limited edition" this and that, pricey boutique amps and simplified my rig to just: EC Strat -> Holy Grail verb -> Champion 600 and I've never been so inspired to play. First day with this amp I took it over to a friend's house to show him. (Yes, at just 5 watts I can actually *carry* my amp places, the freedom is worth $149.99 right there). After the pricey amps I've showed him he had quite a chuckle when he saw how small it was and heard how little I paid for it, but once he plugged into it he turned his Hot Rod Deluxe off - never touched it the entire night. No wonder the Champion has 2 inputs, you have to share!

Will I be trying some mods in the future? Heck, why not? I got this amp for less than $100, that leaves plenty of room for experimentation, learning about circuitry, speaker preferences, tube preferences, having fun customizing, etc. Long story short, this amp is a lot of fun and no one better knock it, ya hear? Keep playing!

That was my thinking when I bought mine. I had been lugging a Vox Valvetronix 50w 2x12 combo. I liked the raw tone of the C600 immediately. It does sound sweet with a Holy Grail. A Bad Monkey will make it spank. Seems to love every pedal I couple it with.

You can shoehorn an eight in there if you want. Weber makes a good one. https://taweber.powweb.com/weber/

Will that make the amp considerably louder? I can imagine more surface area means more air moving so it will be louder but I'm wondering just how much. I'm all for trying the tone mods (tubes, new grill cloth, etc.) but I don't want the amp any louder. The amp is IMO in that weird area being a tad to loud to crank at home and yet not loud enough to gig with, but I did open it up to 12 today when no one was home -- such fun and it wreaks "Layla".

I think ultimately if I want an 8" down the line I'll get a 57 Champ or build one from a kit myself.

I don't think it made it a whole lot louder. The 8 just handles the bass frequencies better when you crank the amp up to twelve. Sounds like you don't want to crank it that much. I play mine loud sometimes, and the six was always farting out. For low volume, I think the six might actually be better for you. Just my opinion.

So whats the pick of the pre amp tubes i am hearing good things about the JAN 5157 mates well with the 600. Has anyone tried the gold lion from Russia? Or the Tungsol? Or Prefered series?

Same again on the 6V6's?? Tung sol??? Gold lion? JJ?? I would greatly apreciate any help as i am about to go nuts on it...ordering a 8 inch Webber today.....

I put Tung-sols in my 600. I have heard that it's hard to fit a JJ 6v6 in there with the 8in Weber. I found the Tung-sol 12ax7 to be harsh, but I can't recommend another because I replaced the Tung-sol with a Silvertone 12ax7 out of an OLD radio.

Ok C'ptn...Thanks for the feedback either way......I am readin good things about the russian tubes.....And the Jan's. I will move the hole in the baffle board hopefully so that i can fit bottles in there....See how it pans out when it's apart i suppose....

Yeah, I thought about that after I posted earlier. You can probably fit any 6V6 in there if you offset the speaker. I centered mine because it fit and I like the Tung-sol tube so I don't plan to replace it with a bigger one like a JJ. It was easier for me to just widen out the hole in the original baffle. If I understand correctly, to offset the speaker you'll need to either drill new mounting holes in the baffle or just cut a new baffle.

The reason I didn't like the Tung-sol 12AX7 was because it was just the same soundwise as the Sovtek tube that came with the amp. The old Silvertone has a smoother sound to my ear. Wish I knew what to replace it with if it goes bad. That radio I robbed it from was ancient.

Just picked up my first Champ 600, the amp is great, love the tone I'm getting from my Squire Tele. How do you tell the wife you need another amp though?
