I've had mine for about a month. Got it on deep-discount at GC and told the guy at the counter to rip up the warranty stuff, haha. In the time I've had it, I've put in a Groove Tubes 12AX7, JJ 6V6GT, Weber 6" Vintage Series Ceramic speaker, and replaced the grille cloth with the old-school oxblood stuff found on the original Champion 600s. Sounds killer! Awesome little amp.

Here's a quick and dirty demo of my amp. Excuse the crappy playing.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lmeMBuaw ... e=youtu.be

The guitar used is a 2009 Fender MIM Standard Stratocastor with SCN pickups. The neck pickup is used. Simple chord progression. There are 5 samples:

1. Amp on "12", guitar on "6"
2. Amp on "12", guitar on "8"
3. Amp on "12", guitar on "10"
4. Amp on "12", E-H LPB-1 at 9:00, guitar on "10", heavy strum
5. Amp on "12", E-H LPB-1 at 9:00, guitar on "10", light strum

A Weber AlNiCo Signature Series 8S 4ohm speaker will fit without cutting a new baffle, centered just like the original speaker. But, if you mount it that way, you'll never get a JJ 6v6 to fit. Tung-sols or EHX will fit. https://taweber.powweb.com/weber/
The 8inch really handles the capabilities of the little Champion a lot better, especially the bass frequencies.

This amp loves just about any pedal you put in front of it.

Also, I think it sounds much better with single coils than with humbuckers. I bought an Epiphone Limited Edition LP Special w/ P-90s a few days ago. After putting it through the paces, I'm never going back to HBs. The p-90s were the last ingredient needed for the sound I've been looking for all these years, and the little Champion has never sounded better.

To each his own, but opinions are a dime a dozen and I'm just throwing mine out there. This has been my only amp for the last 3 years and since I bought it, I've been convinced I could someday get killer sounds from it, much to the dismay of my friends, who play Twins and Hotrods. True, I still can't hang with them on stage, but that was never my goal. I played a living room last night filled with seven people (lol) and the old style bluesy goodness just filled the room. With a Bad Monkey, I was getting sounds that were very '57 Champish.

I'd like to get an extension cabinet for mine. What do people here recommend?
I'm thinking of just a 10" or 12". Nothing too big, just a little bigger than the Champ 600.

Hello guys.

Sorry for interrupting your discussion, but I have few questions about Champion 600. I would like to ask, if this amp would be good for practicing slide guitar with my Gibson SG Standard in my room? Now I'm messing around with micro Marshall MS-2, and it starts to dying slowly. I got an super deal for the new Champ 600 tomorrow, so I am asking you if it would be smart to take it.
I am a big fan of Derek Trucks, and I really like his bluesy sound, and I am also wondering if would be possible to get out of Champ 600 something similar to that awesome tone and sound without any effects etc.? Clean with a little bit of harsh?

I would be really grateful for any answers.

Thanks very much to all!

No, you will not sound like Derek Trucks.

I know that, I just thought about similar sound. Crunchy/clean or how I could describe that sound. But it doesn't matter any more. I got my Champion 600 today, and it is really awesome tube amp! Can't wait on tomorrow to try it by myself. :)

I want a second one to try some mods so if I screw up I have one always...GREAT amp for recording. If I'm able to mod a bit I'll have two little gems. I'd love to run a stereo delay and ping pong a bit between two champs...

Guys, what modification would you suggest for Champ? I would like something as cheap as possible, but still good. I would like a little bit more crounchy sound.

Thanks for any advice! :)

Best regards.

Do you have any video of how does it sound with this mod? Hope I didn't missed it, but I flew over the topic now, need to take a time to completely read it. :)

Thanks for link!

I think there is a You Tube video in there somewhere done during the early mod phase. Haven't had time to do a new one with the final mods and the 12" cab.
