Hello, instead of searching threads, wish to learn about usage and care for my hew 68 custom deluxe reverb, only use will be at home. Want to know about using stby switch, short play periods, and any other tips you pros here can advise me of. I really appreciate the help. Also i noticed the sound seems like it does not project straight out, more like a surround sound? Weird? Maybe since its new,,,Yes, but the tone is beautiful. But thanks a million in advance for your help. Mark

If you're playing at home and you want to take a 10 to 15 minute break and go to the bathroom or do whatever, then you use the standby switch and then just turn it back on and finish jamn'...and then when you're done, you shut the amp completely dow

The rule of thumb is this.. the most wear on the tubes is when they warm up from absolute cold. That's why being on standby is considered less wear and tear on the tubes when the amp is being played at home or gigging out. When you are truly done playing the amp, then you shut it down completely

Conngratulations on your new amp as it has that great classic fender clean with onboard tremolo for that legendary sound
that you can associate with such groups as the Beach Boys and Springsteen and a gazillion others in-between !!

Don't use a fan on the amp. It will do absolutely nothing for the amp, except to blow dust and debris into it. Tube amps are supposed to be hot, and the tubes won't function well without heat. That is why all tubes have heaters inside them, and natural air flow is sufficient to dissipate the heat generated.

Gotcha, just a thought, sorry to so uneducated on these things, my peavey c50 had a fan in it stock, thats why i said that. So regular home temps are fine? I have around 1.5 feet away from the wall.

Yeah, the Peavey Classic 50 has the tubes pretty much enclosed with no way for the heat to escape (heat rises), so I kind of see the need for a fan on that one. A stupid design, to enclose the tubes and add a fan.

For most tube amps, there is no need for a fan. Some that do need a fan don't have them, such as many Vox, where the tubes are completely enclosed. Go figure. :|
