After recently replacing the stock tubes with JJs, I replaced the stock speaker with the Cannabis Rex. Wow, am I happy. What a sound improvement. This thing is now a complete Blues machine. I loved the original sound. I didn't think I could improve on it. The change is't drastic as it still sounds like a Blues Deluxe, but better. I can't really describe how. I've heard it described as "more organic, darker, smoother, warmer, etc. I really don't know what all that means. To me, it just sounds "better". I can all the notes from the guitar clearer. Some notes seemed to get lost, or were too overpowering before. I guess it wasn't a balanced sound before. It may be subtle, but really nice. Funny how it seems to make me play better.

Also, I installed a set of Fender caster wheels. I got the idea from my Fender Ultimate Chorus Amp. It was really easy and quick. It should help my back. I won't be rolling it across rough surfaces, as I'm concerned about the tubes. But on smooth indoor floors, it will be a big help.

Anyway...thanks for listening.
Dave

Congrats on getting your sound. I've been considering a Rex for my BDRI. Good idea on the wheels. :)

The use of wheel on a tubes amp may damage tubes ; road shock

Ok on Chorus amp it is solid state not tubes, not a fragile amp .

Smooth floor ? I read .

Smooth for your feet , not always smooth for hard rubber caster and tubes.
You start to roll on bowling alley which could be safe and you ( or a friend ) go to a gravel road

I not safe as if you carry with your arm.

What I personally found on upgrading the speaker in my own Blues tweed deluxe reissue was, that the amp is much more responsive to all the EQ settings. You should also try substituting two of the three preamp tubes for lower gain values in the V1 slot and V3 slot which is the phase
inverter. A 12ay7 in the V1 slot and a 12at 7 in the v3 slot will render a very smooth.. warm and cream sounding Fender amp with a much better volume control as well.

Hot Rod Deluxe + JJ Tubes+ Cannabis Rex=best amp I ever owned for tone bar none, and I have owned all the classic Fenders, Boogies, and a myriad of other famous amps. None of them can compare to my HRD for my taste in tone.
