The C Rex is a great speaker for the BJr, but be prepared to use some lower gain tubes if you want to be able to get clean sound at volume. When I first put the C Rex in mine, using all three 12AX7s, I was greeted with a wonderful, smooth, driven sound (loved it!), it was definitely louder than the other speakers that I've used, but I had difficulty getting a good clean at any volume. A 5751 in V1, and a 12AT7 in V3 allowed great clean sound, yet was responsive and could be easily pushed back to that sweet driven sound by digging into the strings, playing harder. :D

Some of the Billm mods I have already done really helps with the clean tone especially getting the power tubes at a normal bias level for less break up, I have a 5751 and 12AY7 to play around with in the V1 spot. I hope to be doing the High voltage preamp mod this weekend, should give the preamp section a little more headroom but so far so good the C Rex sounds good and it's far from being broken in.

Good deal!

I also added the adjustable bias to mine, jumper on the mid pot, standby switch, tone stack caps, extra filter cap in the power supply first stage. The later addition of the CRex was a nice change too. Even though I liked the stock amp to begin with, the Billm mods made it more versatile, and with the CRex it's like a different amp, even mo' better. :D

Congrats on the new speaker, and even though it's sweet out of the box, it does get a little smoother after a while.

So you both recommend the C Rex speaker and tube change to clean it up some. I do like the original speaker but would like some more clean head room.

I am very happy with the CRex! :D

I used three 12AX7s and had nice cleans and pretty good breakup sounds, depending on the Vol and Master ratio, using a Celestion G12 P80 speaker, which gave me a bit beefier and cleaner sound than the stock Eminence Gold Label speaker. After changing to the CRex, I had this wonderful driven sound, but not as much clean headroom as before, likely because of the speaker being more sensitive to the amp. Swapping in a 5751 in V1 and a 12AT7 in V3 (PI), and slight adjustments to the tone controls, cleaned it up quite well, yet I could still push the amp to get that great breakup from the CRex. With the Master cranked, the distortion is even better with the CRex than I had before.

Basically, with the CRex, I have a much more responsive amp, playing softer for clean, playing harder to get breakup. The CRex is definitely louder, higher db rating, and this helps to get good clean sound at volume.

So all the mod I have installed are:
Power Supply Stiffening
Tone stack and 2 coupling caps
twin stack
cooler bias

JJ ECC83S x3 and JJ EL84 power tubes

Would the hot rod deluxe extension cab be a good fit for the blues jr?

In lieu of the internal speaker, or in addition to? It is the Celestion G12-P80, I believe.

It would be in addition to the stock speaker.

Electronics gurus here (Shimmilou whose expertise is far better than mine) will tell you that two 8 ohm cabs/speakers giving an overall of 4 ohms will not harm the BJr. Fender won't OK it. I'm very conservative (and no electronics expert), but I won't do mismatches. (I even bought a Weber Z-matcher to address such.) Having said that, I did try my BJr. some years ago (before I converted it to a head) with a 'Y' splitter and used that extension cab along with the internal speaker (just briefly). Sounded great. One of my dislikes of the BJr. was the speaker and cab size of the combo. The BJr. benefits greatly with speaker changes and increased cab size IMO.

Thats all I needed to know. I know the 4 ohms wont be an issue and I am gonna change the speaker to a Cannibis Rex. I just want alittle bigger sound as I plan on gigging with this in smaller bars.

A bigger sound is the way I'd describe it. Suspect you'll like it a lot!
