Using my Nady TD-1 Tube distortion device into my Valve Jr head. All of a sudden the sound got louder and clearer for a few measures, then went back to it's original sound. It happened a second time for a shorter period.

I am guessing power tube in the Valve Jr head which sat in my climate controlled shed for several years, no humidity to speak of in the shed as it is most always under 10% here in the desert. I do have more EL84 power tubes.

I use the same pedal board in front of my Hot Rod Deluxe every other day so now I will notice if it happens in front of the HRD. Instead of changing out the tube in the VJ head right away I will demo the thing in front of the HRD a few times and see if it happens there. I value the TD-1 a big bunch more than the VJ head. I am hoping it is just a tube problem in the VJ head.

It isn't typical of a tube to get louder and cleaner when it is failing. Usually, it's quite the opposite.

No feedback or microphonic tube. I pulled the trigger on a new Nady TD-1 just in case, 88 bucks and change shipped from Amazon. It is probably the head as it sat for a few years unused in my climate controlled shed. But a few days with the pedal board in front of the HRD should tell if it is the TD-1. I have to rebuild that pedal board so I will put in the new TD-1, and use the old as a backup even if it turns out to be the Valve Junior head.

Well I twisted all the pots back and forth to clear them on both devices and tightened some of the guitar chord ends. So far the problemo has left the building for now.
