There is one here in my area for sale at $700. How reliable are they? I have seen some complaints about frequent failures of that amp. I can't recall the exact details but I do remember some complaints on one forum or another.

I know this doesn't answer your question at all (I have no experience with the SS), but have you considered a Deluxe Reverb head? It's a little more expensive, but doesn't it match closer with your original criteria of what you were looking for in a new amp?

Thanks pdawg. I refuse to buy an amp without a full tone stack and a presence control, and an amp with a tremolo. That is exactly why I don't want a Deluxe Reverb, or any of the classic Fenders with a tremolo. If I could find an amp just like the old Black face bassman without any bells or whistles I would buy it. In the mean time a SS 60 watt combo at that price is tempting me to go demo it at least. My original idea in asking for an amp idea is because I want something light, a combo. I have yet to go to GC to find something I might like which is on my agenda as well. I should have never sold the Super Champ X2, but I did it because I only marginally liked it. It too only had a bass and treble control, and that inhibited my tonal variations a bit.
