I have an '08 Vibro-King that smoked (literally) a Electro-Harmonix 6V6GT after three months. I popped a GT-6V6-R in and it seems to be working ok, however I am wondering if any VK aficionados out there can make a recommendation on a dependable, sweet sounding alternative.

Output tubes bias is wrong , too hot .

Put new tubes in and do the bias properly .

Never put new tube without checking bias .

Hey stratele52,

I'm talking about V3, the 6L6 tube that drives the reverb!

Check the cathode resistor , it is a bias ( yes bias ) résistor . On my schematic it is a 330 ohms 5 watts .
Check the by pass cap too.

Here's the schematic:

Voltage checks around that reverb driver. You may have gotten a bad 6V6GT. The JJ 6V6S maybe nice in this position. It can handle higher plate voltages and idle bias current.
