Over the course of the last month I have been looking into upgrading my Fender Blues Junior. Don't get me wrong, I love the amp. It sounded great out of the box. However, I feel that sometimes I run out of room in the low end of the sound spectrum. I have looked into changing the speaker in favor of a Chelston Vintage 30 (12" 8 ohms of course). I have also thought about some of the Bill M mods such as the Twin Stack Mod, and the Tone Stack Mod, but I am a little unclear as to what exactly these mods will do in terms of tone and sound. I absolutely love the sound of the Two Rock Custom Reverb heard on John Mayer's Continuum. I realize that my Blues Junior will never be that amp. However as a point of reference, thats what I am after.

Any help is appreciated. Anyone change their speaker, or try a Bill M mod on their Blues Junior?

I have a 2004 BJ and replaced the stock speaker with an Eminence "Red , White & Blues" and it gives it a fuller tone. You can check out sound samples at www.eminence.com.

Although according to some I went a little overboard with my Blues Jr., I would recommend a speaker change and different tubes.
For a speaker I recommend a Scumback M75 www.southbayampworks.com

For tubes I went NOS and put a 5751 in V-1.

Chet, that is the second time I have heard good things about that speaker. I will have to look into it.

Do you like the tone of a Pre-Rola Celestion Greenback? Then you'll love the Scumbacks!!!!!!

I was looking into those speakers. Which one do you suggest. I don't play with alot of gain but do use some. I want to tone down some of the highs from the stock eminence speaker.

Contact Jim and tell him your set up and what music you play and he will recommend a speaker for you.
