So I recently bought a Quilter Tone Block 200 amp. A little bigger than a couple of stomp boxes, weighs about 4 lb. and puts out awesome 200 w. RMS. It has a "Contour" knob that changes the freq response voicing from classic scooped Fender through flat and into Marshall voicing. I've been running it into a 1x12" cab with an Eminence Texas Heat speaker rated at 150 W. Sounds great all by itself and takes my Mustang Floor very well.
Problem: My studio is attached to the garage and away from the house and I live on 6 acres. So I can crank my amps just about any time I want. Today I cranked the Quilter and was in jam heaven when I started smelling burning electrical. Thought I blew up the Quilter. NOPE! I checked it through other speakers and it's just fine. I blew my Texas Heat
Question. I'm now looking for a robust 12" replacement speaker capable of more than 200W. Has anyone played a guitar amp through a neodymium bass speaker? How does it sound? The quilter would make a fine bass amp as well as guitar amp, so if I can find something powerful enough to handle the amp and sounds good with both guitar and bass...why not?
