I have the 68 Twin for almost a year but I think the 68 might be better since it has no bright cap and I heard someone say the same. I like cleans also and did try the deluxe with a SG and still had pretty good head room. OD pedals that much better or about the same?

OD pedals work great with my 68 CDR, and with my 68 CVR.
The CVR is closer to the Twin tonally so I'm sure the 68 Twin would sound great with pedals too.

The 68 CDR does go into tube break at lower volume, even lower than the DRRI by about a notch and a half.
By 4-5 on the volume there is already power tube break up in the tone.
To say clean you have to be below that.
As you know the cleanest is the Twin reverb and the 68 version breaks earlier by design.
The Hot Rod dlx3 is also a loud clean amp at the lower price point.
The other option is the new 68 CVR, which is tonally towards the Twin and stays cleaner at a louder volume compared to the 68 CDR.

In my experience with the amps mentioned here all of them take distortion pedals really well.
That seems to be the norm with Fender amps and that's one of the great things about them.
They give us a great tonally rich base tone that we can then build on with pedals to create our own sound and tone. That's why I've finally come to Fender amps. :)

I have the 68 twin, just asking since the deluxe doesn't have the bright cap it might sound better. When I played the deluxe it did seem to take the pedals a little better but I didnt try it loud and that were it counts. Someone did take his back because of the brightness and said the deluxe worked out better for him. I like mine a lot, just have over 40 hrs on the speakers but I bet the A type would be better. Love the loud cleans also! I do like some sag to my amps also but im still fiddling around with it.

Well as you likely know the 68 CDR doesn't do loud and clean, it breaks even sooner than the DRRI.
It LOVES distortion pedals even when driven into it's own natural break up, just moderate the gain distortion pedals gain and you can get some sweet balanced high gain tones that sing.

I prefer the CDR over the DRRI for the very reason that it's not as bright, yet there is still plenty of high end chime and it's better controlled on the CDR. The DRRI is brighter but I found I was backing off the treble on the amp and the guitar. The DRRI is a great sounding amp but for me the CDR is nicer, and the touch sensitivity is a touch better on the CDR.

Just found out my amp wasnt grounded all this time! only one side of the basement was updated. Right away my reverb doesnt hum from the pedal any more, so disregard anything I said about the pedal causing noise:) Records better now cant wait to try it loud again
