My only amp at the moment is a 10 year old Fender Hot Rod Deville 212. Bringing this to band practice every week is a killer as it weighs a ton and I can never go past 2 without deafening everyone. I also feel like I'm not getting good tone as I'm turned down so low.

This week I ordered a new Fender Blues Junior III amp. I was torn between this and an AC15 but eventually went for the Fender because of it's size and portability. I'm also looking for a small clas A tube amp I can crank up and get some nice tones. I'll be using a Boss GT100 pedalboard with it.

I've read a lot about the mods that owners make with these amps as they think the stock speakers aren't good etc.... I want to detemine for myself if the amp sounds good for myself before I start tinkering with it.

But....

I would like some suggestions for mods that would get the best out of this little amp should I want to make changes to it.

BillM Audio mods, maybe. I'd start there.

Actually BillM is still recovering from a brain tumor and is not taking orders right now. He hopes to be back in January.

There are other mod companies out there, tho. So you might consider them.

Having got the amp last Thursday and used it extensively in rehearsal that night, I'm not sure if it will need any mods. I plugged my Guitar directly into the amp. I turned on the fat switch and turned up the volume while dialling down the master volume when I was looking for overdriven tones. I used it on clean channel with nice levels of reverb for everything else.

Our bass player couldn't believe it was only 15 watts with the volumes it was putting out. I love this little amp. I even like the reverb.

+1 torresfan, it is a great little amp. If you have the chance, try it with an external cab. Unplug the internal speaker and plug in an external cab, be sure to use the speaker jack and not the fat switch jack.

I think the III is a completely different (for the better) animal from the earlier Blues Jr's. The only complaint I have with mine is the reverb still sounds digital (which it is). Still much better than the I and II. Speaker is a definite improvement as are little things, like the reversed control panel and the "real" jewel light.

The BJr III still has a spring reverb tank, driven by an analog op-amp, just as previous versions have. There is nothing digital about it.

Sorry, mis-spoke, I meant to say that the Blues Jr. doesn't have tube reverb.... :D
