I just acquired a mid 90's Roc-Pro , this past Saturday and to be honest here, I am getting worried about the gain channel on it. It seems that I'm having some trouble with the volume knob on it and at first , it was scratchy but now, it looks like the 12AX7/ECC83 tube that's in it could either be going on the fritz because it is taking close to a minute or so to warm up before any sound comes out on that channel. Am I panicking for nothing or should I be legitimately worried here ?

Here is my diagnosis...Scratchy pot? Deoxit spray. Replace the 12AX7 with a known good tube. After that, take it to a amp tech.

what tube do you recommend that would work with this amp and secondly , why bring it to a amp tech if the above solutions will fix it ? I'm confused. Guitars I can work wonders with but when it comes to amps, I'm totally in the dark.

EH 12AX7's will work and are plentiful or even JJ's. IF that doesn't fix it, THEN you take it to a tech is what I meant!

I was able to get some deoxit and give the pots a good cleaning. The amp is now working fine and the stock tube that's in it , does take a second or so to warm up which is something some of the people on here told me today. I've never used tubes before, so this was all new to me. The amp is fine now and I'm happy so thanks for the advice. I will probably get a replacement tube in the future though just to be safe.

It's always a good idea to keep some spare tubes around. I have a spare tube for every tube in my amp. Any preamp tube can just be pulled out & replaced with a same numbered tube regardless of brand.

All tube amps take a few seconds to warm up, that's normal.

I'm thankful for all of the advice from all of you. The amp now sounds much better now that the pots have been cleaned . I now just need to find a footswitch for it or, would a Fender Standard single button work with it ?

You need to read the owners manual for this amp...link below...it came with a two button footswitch (channel and reverb) (pg 4) so a single button won't work correctly. You might be surprised what you learn about this amp after reading the manual.

I sent Fender consumer relations a email today, asking which of their current fooswitches that they have out on today's market, would be compatible with my amp. I looked on E-Bay and couldn't find anything used that fit your description.

Take the PN number and do a search on Amazon. I found a couple.

A friend of mine happened to have bought a used Fender 112 this week which came with the footswitch as you described. He uses a Digitech RP 100 and has no use for the switch, so he ended up giving it to me. It works like a charm and I ended up sending back the single button one I had originally bought. Thanks for the help.

I also put in a new tube a couple of days ago which made a huge difference. I went a bought a JJ 12AX7/ECC83 which not only made the amp sound clearer but also added a boost to it as well.

Yeah, you should have just kept all of the info in this thread instead of starting a new thread about the exact same amp, same tube change, in a different section of the forum.
