Hello and thanks in advance for any advice.

I am sure this has been asked many times before but I couldn't find much to answer my question browsing the forums.

I am looking for that vintage BF Vibrolux sound but have not been successful in finding it. Buying a true Vintage BF is out of my price range in that it costs 4g + tax + shipping here to Australia and by the time the tax and postage is added even a 70's SF is a bit much. Are there any modern re-issues that truly do it justice? The tone I am looking for is that warm clean fender tone with bight and I heave heard a number of vintage Vibrolux all of which just sound awesome. I love how the amp breaks up and has this awesome dirty sound.

I have been looking at the 68 Custom Vibrolux Reverb but am not sure if it mimics the original sound as have only heard low cleans or pedals through it.

Any Thoughts?

I am thinking about getting a 68 Custom Vibrolux and swapping the speakers out for Celestion Greenbacks. Hoping to achieve a nice vintage sound with some nice low end.

Just remember that the new Vibrolux Custom has a solid state rectifier unlike the vintage model. This IMHO can have an affect on tone. Solid state rectifiers have a bit more edge or tightness but loose some of the warmth of the tube version. Something to consider when replacing the speakers especially if you are trying to get to the vintage Vibrolux tone.

Ah thanks heaps for the heads up. Is there a model you might think would do the job better? I'm not overly familiar with the re-issues myself.

Custom Vibrolux is not a reissue . That why the name is " Custom " not " Reissue".

There are companies that will sell you an exact clone of an original BlackFace amp. They won't say Fender on them but they will be a third of the price of vintage. Sometimes only a quarter, depending on parts selection.

Marsh is one such company.

Napalm, please read my thread "How I Customized My 68 CVR." Perhaps it will be of assistance to you.

That custom Vibrolux sounds nothing like the original. I had a 66. I'm not saying it sounds bad, it just really misses the vintage vibe. SF Vibrolux amps are a lot more resonable.
Your location could be a problem though.

This is true, it has a solid state rectifier.
Fender says/claims that they have somehow modified the power transformer in order to give the amp some "sag", like that in an amp with tube rectifier.

My 68 CDR does have a tube rectifier.
I own both amps and the feel in play of both amps is pretty darn close, even though the CDR has a rectifier tube and the CVR is solid state, so much so that imo rectifier type isn't an issue with the CVR.
What's most important is how the amps sounds to the player and how it feels when being played.

Both of these are "silver face" and both are VERY responsive/touch sensitive amps.
Compared to the 14 tube amps I've had over the past 2 years the 68 CDR and CVR are excellent in regard to sensitivity, and that's an amp aspect that I really look for an enjoy.

Tonally, these two amps are different for much greater reasons that SS vs tube rectifiers.
SS rectifiers do give an amp a quicker attack and that's a major reason why Metal players prefer SS rectification, whereas more Blues players prefer a tubes "sag".
The 68 CVR's SS rectifier does a great job for any playing.
I don't know what Fender really did to the transformer to get some sag into the amp, but whatever they did it works great.

I don't know how the 68 CVR compares to the original Vibrolux, but that doesn't matter much as I like to take an amp on it's own merits.
If someone wants an old Vibrolux, or Twin Reverb, or whatever old/vintage amp, then get one of those and don't bother comparing old hand wired amps to modern PC circuit amps. Those who denounce modern amps and their tones already have a bias and that tends to cloud judging a modern amp on it's own merits, imo of course. :)

IMO original Silverface amps ( same for Blackface amps ) use higher quality parts than most modern mass production amp.

My 68 custom twin sounds dam close to a old one I tried and has better features. A guy on another board owned the old vibrolux and his new one sounds pretty close to the old one so he's very happy.
