My amp has a hum that gets louder and louder when I turn the reverb knob up to 6 . It will go away when I turn it down 3 and work properly. any solutions? The amp is about 2 years old.

12XX7 tubes noisy , one 6V6 weak , tubes contacts need cleaning , filter caps , broken solder or copper printed circuit .

well I checked cleaned and tighten tube sockets all. They are OK. looked for bad solder joints. OK. Checked the reverb tank. OK again. Played it hoping the cleaning did the job, still the bad howl continues when reverb turned up to 6 and above. Went to bed thinking about it and did remember that when I moved around the amp the howl changed in volume and intensity. This made me wonder if it was a shielding or cable problem. Got up this morning and found a different RCA cable and switched the cable that plugs into the reverb tank and that was it turned the reverb all the way and no howl. Plays perfect.

The cable that came with the amp was probably not shielded as good as the vcr cable I put in there also the plug was much better so if your having this problem give this a try first.

" Still the bad howl continues when reverb turned up to 6 and above. "

You have a microphonic tube(s) in the reverb section. Either the 12AT7 reverb driver (V3) and/or the 12AX7 reverb recovery tube (V4). Try another 12AT7 and 12AX7 in these positions.

Good luck! :)

Next get rid of that cheap speaker cable that comes with them !
I made a nice multi strand heavy duty twisted wire cable and a pancake 90 degree connector.

A little upgrade goes a long way with these amps 8)
