So the title says it, my HRD crackles intermitantly, and gets worse when I touch the metal face plate of the control panel.

Just put new tubes in, seems slightly worse than before, although the tone is AWESOME :)

Any ideas?

Oh- I'm waiting on the basic Fromel kit to do resistors and tone pot.

Thanks guys/gals

Broken solder on printed circuit , tubes pins dirty / rusty or need to be tightened . 6L6' bias too hot , input jack broken, 12XX7 noisy , some tubes plate's resistor .. .....

Wich tubes ?? 6L6s ? did you check bias ?

This kit ?

This amp is very tough to work on if you never work on tube amp , you could do more damage if you are not qualified .
Tubes amps have lethal voltage that can kill you

Thanks for the leads (no pun intended)

I'm getting half the Fromel kit from that link, just resistors and tone pots, not the Caps.

Tubes - JJ 6l6 cryo and electroharmonix 12AX7's.

Also just noted that the issue is only on the clean chanel.

Will follow up on your hints and report back.

Why ? It is so a hard job to remove all the circuit do all the job or nothing . Is the mod will work without the capacitors ?
I must say fix the amp before , you can do more damage to your amp

You did not answer if you check bias

Not enough information , ,on clean channel it is easy to hear crackle

Will follow up on your hints and report back.

" Gets worse when I touch the metal face plate of the control panel. "

Kinda sounds like a bad chassis grounding point. Or maybe, bad solder on the control pots. Check the wiring that goes to the chassis for tightness, if attached by screw. Resolder grounding points. You may also want to flow some good solder onto the pot attachment sites on the board. Draw the old stuff up. Use good solder. I like Kester 60/40.

Good luck!
