Supro, I agree ! I have yet to swap out a speaker for a weber where I didn't see a significant improvement !

Good stuff for sure !

For me, trying to get maximum headroom, low end definition (thump and bounce) and spanky sparkly top end, the Swamp thang just handles it so well, makes 20 to 22 watts sound and feel more like 50.

Again Your sound will determine what speaker and speaker type to use !!!
Alnico, Ceramic, hemp cone, high wattage, low wattage or somewhere in between.

Well; I need to know more about this swamp thang. "low end definition, thump, and bounce"! I like the description but I have to reference to something so I know we`re on the same page. How bout an example? It makes me think of EC`s Double trouble on Live @ Madison square garden...?do you know it?this is the sound I`m looking for! @150watt Handling power can this be the right speaker for 22 in a DRRI? I want to hear something about a modern Loud Contemporary Blues! Put me on the right track!

that would be great! I am at this point looking at a creamback(it`s in EC`s tremolux. It has to be good)!, or an Eminence something? Strong following for Swamp Thang.Still trying to find more reviews on EJ1250( thinking Alnico too)!

Again Jeff, i needed all the bottom of a 50 watt blackface Bassman head out of a combo that I could easily haul around and get Tight clean blues and Get my OD from Pedals.

I use a Visual Sound Route 66 compressor for comp and clean boost and trust me I've tried most and the VS kills it !
For OD I have yet to find a wider range of sounds without adding a ton of color or noise than the Cmatmods Signa Drive, crazy good !!!

The Swamp thang is so tight on the bottom and yet has an excellent high side too, it makes my DRRI sound twice as big and deep.

Nothing with this DRRI on my Box account so....... Tomorrow

Here ya go Jeffp DRRI with Swamp Thang (killer tubes and bias too)
Reverb slightly above #2

recorded on a Tascam DR-05 (compresses a lot ! )

VS Route 66 comp only (did not use the overdrive side)
adds clean boost and some compression

Cmatmods Signa Drive
Set on full volume, middle tone and lowest gain possible

clean for first half then a hint of dirt the other half

Thanks Jeffp

A bit rushed sounding (no drummer or bass) but you get the idea
PS my strat has 54 CS pickups vintage wound low output, i'm building a Texas special strat right now and betting my rig will sound even better with hotter pickups.

The overdrive that comes with the Route 66 is kinda heavy handed for my taste and that is why I use a Cmatmods Signa Drive, I can get that right on the edge of dirt that kicks in a bit when your playing gets aggressive.

Notice about half way through the clip I add the Signa Drive to the mix and it has just enough dirt (at least for me) for some nice bluesy stuff.

If I had a Tele (just sold it) I could show you just how close to Tab Benoit you can get with this rig, Tab is another of my favorite players and since your from Louisiana 8)

Can't wait to get back home, where its always nice and warm !

bass 6
treble 3
reverb 2 and a bit
volume 2 (the boost from the compressor adds tons of volume)

If you look at my other post you'll see that I didn't completely remove the bright cap but instead I replaced it with a different value and silver mica, it smoothed out the reverb tremolo side in a BIG way and kept the Fender sparkle.

Again, tubes and a proper bias have a LOT to do with my amps sound.

5751 in V-2 a very good 12AX7 in V-4
RCA 6V6GT in the power side
Good NOS 12AT7 in the PI and reverb driver
and a real Mullard GZ34 in the rectifier spot
