I've got an opportunity to trade my 71' Bandmaster Reverb (w/ 2x15 cabinet) for either a FSR cream and wine red Fender Hot Rod Deluxe II or a 59' Bassman Reissue. I'm not overly familiar with either of these amps (am I better off holding on to the Bandmaster?) so any advice would be great!

Thanks

Hi r_p_smith,

I would keep the Bandmaster, but if you want to trade, go for the Bassman. JMO

I am no expert, but I did A/B a Deville 4x10 with a Bassman RI and picked the Bassman. However I could never get it to the sweet spot at home (too loud) and I play mostly at home, so I had to sell.

The Hot rod isn't in the same league as the others. IMO

+1 I'd keep the Bandmaster and buy the Bassman.
The overall build quality and tone of those two amps are light-years beyond anything in the HRD Series. I get to borrow a 59 Bassman reissue a couple times a month and it's an amazing amp. I had a 73 Bandmaster and I really regret selling it. IMO they could cover the HRD in mink, gold or whatever, and call it a IV, V or XX and it won't make it sound better than either of these two amps.

I don't blame you for that one Tim.
I like my little 5e3 clone, but I plan on building an 18 watt Marshall clone next month.

Sold my Bandmaster Reverb head a few years back
Regretted it since !

In fact I put it up for sale twice and refused to sell it , then in a moment of weakness I let it go.
My DRRI come close and sounds amazing, however there is something about a tube rectified 6L6GC amp that 6V6 can't match !

the 59 Bassman LTD can sound excellent with a good bias job and great tubes ! no reverb is a deal killer for me these days and pedals just are not the same.
