I bought an Acoustasonic 100 off of Ebay. I know it's underpowered and all that, but I like it. I was playing through it last night, and went back to it this morning. Plugged in and turned it on and NOTHING! Not a sound. Not a buzz, not a clickn nothing at all but the little red light was on.

I thought I'd ask about this here before I pack it up and send it off to a Fender repair facility. Can anyone think of an owner serviceable condition that could cause this? Is there a fuse someplace I should be looking at?

Any help and/or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Fred

Hi fredgold52,

Check the obvious first, is your guitar cable plugged in all the way?

Thank you for that. Yes, I plugged and unplugged the cord several times. I made sure the volume was not on zero on both the guitar and the amp. I even performed the fail-safe procedure implemented by most technical geniuses, I flipped the on/off switch several times. (Think the definition of insanity). With it on, the volume turned up half way, and a cord plugged in but no guitar, I put my ear right up to the grill cloth and heard nothing. Dead silence! Scary.

I would never buy any amps from E-bay unless the seller had a extremely high rating. Plus, I like to test any amp that I plan to buy. That's where you messed up pal. You should contact the seller on E-Bay and see if he has a return policy. If so, then return it and tell him you want a full refund and if he refuses, file a complaint with E-Bay.

I agree, contact the seller if the amp isn't as described. I'm assuming that you recently received the amp.

I agree, stay away from Ebay unless the seller has a great rep and a return policy.
For my acoustics, I use a Fishman Loudbox Mini. It sounds great, is reliable and works great for small gigs. It isn't loaded down with lousy cheesy sounding digital effects and amp models. I tried the Acoustasonic Series and they colored my sound to the point that it didn't sound like an acoustic anymore. Fishman has been making acoustic pickups forever, their amps are great and not too expensive. I've been thinking about the Performer or Artist for larger gigs.

I appreciate all the input regarding my buying methods, and I can't argue with any of it. My problem is that I live out in Forgotonia Illinois. There's not a decent music store within 150 miles. That means my opportunities to try things out are limited.

The seller does not accept returns, but it's still worth a message or two.

More to the point, what I actually asked about was ideas on why the amp had gone completely dead over night. I'm assuming no one has any idea since no one but the first responder addressed it at all.

Anyway, thanks for the input.
Fred

Big Ebay seller here. Simply tell the seller you are returning defective merchandise. All ebay sellers are mandated to take returns, regardless of what the seller states on their site. If they don't, dispute it, and ebay will side with you. 10 times out of 10 you'll get your money back. Believe me, I've bought some wrongly described items and have always got my money back, sometimes the seller didn't like it, but I still won.

Fred, check the obvious like a blown fuse or loose connectors that may have come loose during shipping. Some amps have multiple fuses. If you can, remove the chassis and look around, be sure to unplug it first. If you decide to poke around in it while it's live, keep one hand in your pocket and use a wooden chopstick.

+1 sellers have obligations. If merchandise is defective it must be explicitly stated.

Did you check the front-panel MUTE switch?

Shane, you called it right. Some fool installed a MUTE button, and another fool accidentally pushed it. Oh man, do I feel dumb. But I hadn't had it long enough to know about the mute button. Anyway, it's back working just fine. So thanks to all who took part in this treasure hunt, but Shane through superior logic and intuitive reasoning got it right.
