Hi,

Is it normal for the Spring Reverb to make a gurgling/bubbling noise when you first start amp and disable the "Stand By" so you can play. I took it to a Fender Repair center who said this was normal unless you turn reverb to 1.

Any feedback is appreciated.

I never see that on any Fender amps and I see a lots . But I never work on a 65 DRR

IMO , it is not normal , reissue should work like other Fender amp ; quiet Reverb.

I agree. It is just not right, but why would a Fender Authorized Repair Center say that this is the way a Spring Reverb is "supposed to work?

It is not the first time I read something like that .

1- IMO , Authorized Repair Center did not say anything about if the tech is qualified .
2- How Fender test / know if the tech is qualified or not ?

In some country there is no qualified tech or who want to work for a guitar store. What Fender can do ?

There should be no noise at all if reverb pot is off.....even if the pot is on 3 or 4 then only a small splash can be heard when standby is flicked.

If the reverb pot is on 1 there is no sound. If the reverb pot is on 3.

USMC7312 I can't get your link to work. But if you mean you get a sound similar to like when you pluck a muted string w/the reverb on, IMO that could be normal. Real reverbs unlike digital reverbs are sensitive to movement & vibration. If you pick up your amp while the reverb is on & place it back down a bit too hard you'll get a hellacious crashing sound too. But I wouldn't be 100% certain w/o hearing the clip. OTOH my DRRI doesn't seem to have that "gurgling" when I switch the standby even w/the reverb on 7.

If you're comfortable with swapping tubes, swap V3 and V6 (12AT7's) and then see if it still happens. If it does, swap V4 and V5 (12AX7's) to see if that cures it. MAKE SURE THE AMP IS OFF AND UNPLUGGED.

Here's his link.

+1 mojjett

It is possible to get some reverb splash when switching to play if the reverb is turned up.
