Looking for more clean headroom in my 65 PRRI (Play mostly Jazz)-what are some good options? Should I stay with a 10" or 12" any particular models that are well suited for Jazz styles,

I like the Weber 10F150. Prolly, for your needs, the 10F150T, no doping, 50-watt model.

I am looking at that one, the other one that seems to pop up on Jazz threads is the Eminence lil' buddy, which many say is too dark, but dark is what I want. I don't know about other's experience with the PRRI but mine starts to break somewhere around 5 or 6 depending on the guitar.

I have a Lil Buddy in my SCX2 and I find nothing dark about it. Warm is a better term, ice pick type highs are musical instead of piercing. I am playing with replacing it with the alnico hemp coned 10" speaker that Weber makes. Paper cones can sound really good but, hemp is a fiber that "sings" while it reproduces. I have come to love the tone of hemp speakers.

You are right, that is a much better descriptive word, I am looking for warm with more headroom. How do you like it in the SCX2? I love that little amp, and it does not cost a fortune to retube!

+1 on the hemp cones. I was a little skeptical at first, used paper for decades but I have a well broke in Tone Tubby alnico red 12" that I use now and have never been more satisfied with the tone. I will say that it's a matter of personal taste with hemp. (no pun intended)

I like it much better than the Emi Alnico RedFang that was in there. The British voicing was not "my" sound, even though it is a great performer with lots of alnico mojo. The Lil Buddy makes the amp very toneful and musical. Only the Weber alnico 10" hemp cone could make me take the Emi LB out of my SCX2.

I went with the Eminence Lil Buddy, did not really improve the headroom all that much but the sound is much richer, lush is the term that really comes to mind. I might be sold on hemp cones from here on out, I've only got a couple hours on it so it isn't even broken in yet. Even though it did not improve the headroom, the distortion is much nicer to the year, very crunchy without being shrill.

The only way to increase headroom is to get the highest efficient speaker you can find, and like. The Ragin Cagun, for example, is a Celestion V30 sounding speaker. It is rated a 100.5 and it increases volume, and weight, for the amplifier.

Also changed out the v1 tube for a 12AY7 gave me much more headroom, doesn't break up until 6-7 or so.

I have the Lil Buddy in a Champion 110 and I love it. It is just like they advertise, smooth and full. It takes a long time to break in so expect it to keep getting better.

I liked it so much I did the same thing to my peavey classic 30, put in the cannibis rex along with a 12ay7, I dare say it is pretty close to the Fender George Benson Hot Rod, very sweet. I was looking to actually purchase a new amp but now no need. billm says this speaker could not make a harsh not if it tried and I would have to agree,

One other thing I have noticed with the eminence hemp speakers is that they seem to reduce the rattling of the speaker at certain frequencies, another plus, I might just throw one of these in all of my amps

I'm jelly. I bought a Princeton 112 thinking I could put a CR in there but then realized the amp is 65 watts and the CR is 50 watts and Anthony at Eminence told me don't do it. The Red White and Blues is working out ok but I'm still thinking of getting the CR someday.
