I have this amp and it's a loud one. I also have a Blues Jr. Can these two amps be hooked together and controlled by the blues jr?

Also, is there a way to mod the deluxe using PPIMV and if so how do you do it?

Thanks for any help.

Hi dmacd67,

The BJr has no "Preamp Out" or "Power Amp In" like the HRDlx has, so you cannot connect the two as you've described.

What is "PPIMV"?

It's called a Post Phase Inverter Master Volume. I'm not sure what all it entails but it should allow me to drive the tubes to break up without the amp being so loud it breaks glass a mile away. I'm sure installing would void any warranty etc...

Thank you for replying and any other help I can get.

You already have a "Master" that does just that, on the Drive/More Drive channels. A PPIMV will not allow driving the output tubes into distortion at low volume, it will only add the PI into the preamp distortion. IMO, this mod will not give you much more difference in the preamp distortion than what you already have.

If you want to drive the output tubes into distortion at low volume, you need an attenuator, which connects between amp output and speaker. There are mixed opinions of how the attenuator changes tone, and the tone will not be quite the same as the tone when the unmodded amp is cranked.

Thanks for the help. I will keep it as is and work with it to get the tone I want. It's a nice amp. Thanks again.

Yes it is a nice amp. I've been enjoying mine for about 16 years now. :D

You might try some different preamp and PI tubes to get a different tone, both clean and drive. I prefer a 5751 in V1, a 12AX7 in V2, and a 12AT7 in V3 (PI). This gives me a bit warmer clean tone which stays cleaner further up the volume range, and smoother/bluesier drive tones. With the master on the drive channel set low, I can get some very nice distortion at lower volume.
