I'm thinking about replacing the stock speaker in my Super Sonic 22. I like the amp but the stock speaker sounds a bit muddy. This can be controlled somewhat with amp and guitar tone controls, but it might be better to start with a natural balanced tone of a different speaker. I play rhythm guitar in an instrumental surf music (Dick Dale, Ventures, Safaries style).

Anyone with suggestions?

I like the sound of the Jensen C12K that came in my 65 DRRI. Your SS 22 has the "Deluxe Reverb power platform," so you may find it to your liking.

Agree on the C12K. Also look at the Weber 12F150 - it's their Jensen C12N copy (Jensen no longer makes the C12N.)

Agree on the C12K, another choice might be the Eminence Screamin' Eagle. It is a little more efficient for a little more headroom. It is also a good speaker for top end note clarity.

Not familiar with the Screamin' Eagle specifically, but I have an Eminence Texas Heat 12" 4 ohm in a 1x12 cab that I use with a 65TRRI head and it's great. The Texas Heat also comes in 8 ohm and 16 ohm versions. I've also used 10" Ragin' Cajuns in some other amps and I must say that I really like Eminence speakers. You can call the factory (it's in Tenn.) and they will help you select the right speaker based on what you tell them you want out of your amp. Then you have to go to GC or some other store/website to order them. Nice guys. Check out their website too.

If you are not going with Weber 12F150 then I would suggest the Kendrick Blackframe 12. Very good, very efficient speaker. They cost a bit more, but they are worth every penny!

I cannot recommend the new Jensen's they just are not the same as the vintage ones in any way other than name only.

I have some Eminence speakers and they are all excellent. 820H (8" hemp), Lil Buddy, (10" hemp) Cannabis Rex, (12 inch hemp) and a 10" Red Fang alnico. I have the Weber Signature 8" in home made cab and it really sings.
