Hi, I got a fender blues junior (cream board) from ebay and swapped out the stock speaker for a cannabis rex. I have had it for about 3 months now and use an OD pedal to drive it - manly cos the volume taper is more sensitive and can get nice breakup at neighbor-friendly volumes in an apartment.

I like the tone, but the more I drive it with the pedal darker it gets and it becomes to dark at high drive even with full treble on the amp and OD pedal. I though this was coloration from the OD pedal and was looking around for something more suitable. But today when going straight into the amp I noticed that the sound was dreadful when the volume was high or the fat switch engaged. Sounds 'farty' bass-wise and kinda metallic (but not in a good way at all). The amp sounds great on clean with the volume down and the master volume up so I don;t think its the speaker.

I'm thinking that the preamp tubes have given up and 'fight back' whenever they are driven. Any clues out there?

Cheers!

This is where I feel sad that BillM is no longer with us.

You might try poking around BillMAudio.com. There might be some info there. Also I think he posts on tdpri.com.

Bill Machrone used to be with us?
What was his handle?
And when?

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.
