I think the DR RI is one of the cleanest amps out there. Hate to spend $$$$s on another amp. Anybody play an acoustic thru a DR RI????
Whats your favorite acoustic guitar amp?

Yes, I do. How does it sound? Like fingernails on a chalkboard (the old kind, like me) thru a dimed Marshall stack. Or maybe a squeaking rubbed balloon thru that stack.

Bottom Line: you gotta do something about the over-modulation and feedback or it is not listenable at volume settings above 0.3 (and even then it is thin, harsh, and "un-acousticy"). Here's what I have found works in an "acceptable" tone fashion when using an under-saddle pickup (Martin D16GT with Martin/Fishman pickup):

I put the guitar in thru a Boss GE-7 Equalizer that is set with the tone controls all on the bottom ("-15"), with only a select few (my guit is up on some of the mid-lows and mid-highs) pushed up to around "-10" on the scale. The Level/Gain is set just above the bottom slide position too. The Martin seems to do best thru the Normal channel, with the Vibrato channel harder to control (especially if you try to add Reverb). So how does it sound? Like a sort of electric/acoustic guitar trying not to feed back (and note that the feedback can happen to a single note, so be sure to test all of your capo positions before playing live). I also have found that adding my Rocktron Big Crush (cheapo) Compressor adds some mellow nuance to the tone too (but note you will be fiddling long time to find the compromise).

I have tried microphones (Shure SM57) and it has not proved to be really a better alternative to cutting back the feedback and sound bleed-over. And I have never tried the strictly acoustic amps, which likely avoid all of these finagling hassles. But then you need 2 amps at a gig, and if you're playing only a few acoustic songs, my method might be what you need. The sound hole covers are worthless here too. Robs tone (think muffled with no dynamics or articulation), and still feed back.

My drri is a top notch amp for all my electric guitars. So rich and clean. Figured the clean would work for an acoustic. Thanx for the info, there's a lot of nice acoustic amps out there.

My acoustic/electric sounds beautiful thru my Alamo Capri single ended 6V6 amp. Would surmise any se 6V6 amp would do same.

Not really. Not all acoustic pickup systems are created equal. Same with 6V6 powered amps. On my Martin Performance Artist OCMPA4 it sounds much more acoustic and natural through my Fishman Loudbox Mini. So much so that I may go with an Artist. None of my acoustics sound as nice through any of my tube amps including the ones I built. Fishman has been in the acoustic amplification business for decades. I have used a DR with my acoustics and never liked it and found it a bear to control at performance volumes.

Yep Yep, agree with Supro. Wasn't going to chime in, because I don't have a DR, but a Vintage 15(custom PR clone/12" Weber). I play a '72 Guild F48/ Sunrise PUP. Have used the this tube amp and guitar at outdoor fests via mic & PA( only because the electric was also needed). Otherwise, an old Genz Benz 85 acoustic amp is my amp of choice. As I see it, the biggest issue with using these tube amps for acoustic/electrics is the input impedance on the amp. The 1Mohm grid leak resistor sets and dominates the value(not withstanding the 68Kohm resistors) over the input impedance. For an acoustic/ electric pick-up system, a 12Mohm grid leak resistor would better serve the condition and amp perfomance. JMHO, Art

Excuse my going off-course.

How are you liking the Vintage 15, aclempoppi?

Excellent !!! Speced the CE 30/20/20/20@525, PIO tonecaps, and Alnico Weber. Use mostly RCA NOS tubes. It's definitely my "Grab & Go" amp. Art

There's simply no substitute for a good acoustic amp.
The surest sign you have a great acoustic amp is if your amplified guitar sounds like your unamplified guitar.

Prolly the best Fender offerings were the Genz Benz Shenandoah series of amplifiers.
The vid below is the amp I own, the ShenPro-LT.
Unfortunately, these amps are no longer made.
What I like about my amp is the versatility.
I can can dial it up so it's as pure and clinical as the (Dean Markley) UltraSound amps or I can warm it up with a little bit of 12AX7.

BMW-KTM, that is a very nice amp! Really like the addition of the tube pre-amp option. Another neat amp I've played through, is the Rivera Terra, an all tube(EL34-power section) acoustic amp. My '02 Shen 85 serves my needs quite well. Keep Pickin' !!!! Art

I've been using an SWR Strawberry Blonde amp for 20 years (can't believe it's been that long). Great acoustic guitar amp.
