Hi Guys, I changed out a treble pot (amp was completely fine) after re-installation as soon as i flip the standby switch I see sparks at one of the legs of C51 (and I hear a slight buzz almost like 60cycle)

I pulled the power amp tubes and same problem occurs.

I changed the cap, and still same spark. I obviously shut off the the Standby as soon as I see the spark.

Would there be anyone kind enough to point me in the right direction?

:x

Where is C 51? Did you reconnect the green gound wire after reinstalling the board?

Sorry, but I have to ask,...if the amp was fine, why would you change the treble pot?

It is possible, maybe even likely, that you damaged a trace somewhere around the treble pot when changing. I know that you will have to pull the board again, but likely some damage was done when changing the pot.

Shimmy, I believe that C51 is the bypass cap, before the main PSU rectifier diodes. Definitely needs a tech look-see.

Shim - I meant the amp was fine with the"exception" of the treble pot.

Ground (green wire is fine)

It was broken (center shaft lifting out)

After looking closing with my magnifier, the flash was coming off the Diode (the 4 just to the left of C51) the diode at the bottom. Took the board off (again) looked with my mag again and seen cracks on the solder joints........Re-flowed and presto!

Shim.....you freaking Rock this whole board though! You always push me to GET AFTER IT! THanks brother!

Now that its dialed in the treble pot on (1) is real "bassy" as I roll it higher away from (1) to (2) to (4) and so on, I lose that bottom end and gain treble.....WTHeck?? Im thinking someone modded this amp?
