Well, looks like the Fender gremlins have attacked my new 68 CR.
I received it late on Friday and had a chance to play it.
It was sounding good....until today.

I turned on the power only, and I could feel some vibration coming through the cabinet.
Standby was on stop/on.
I turned the power off, waited and turned it back on.
Vibration still there.
Waited and then turned stanby to go/off.
There was an odd "pop", not loud but I could hear it.
Volume went WAY down. It's barely audible at 3-4, both channels.
Cranked it to 10 and there is volume but it's not loud at all and it doesn't sound good either.

Tubes are all glowing and I checked that there were seated.
I'm not going into diagnosing though, still too new.
It's going back.

Fender? What's up?!

Vibrations -- whether audible, palpable, or both -- are usually indicative of impending transformer malfunction.

Regardless, total failure after merely three days of ownership does not bode well for this specific amp and the entire line in general.

But hey......Fender's building harmonicas now.

Now ya know why I jumped on the latest DRRI !
Arjay had mentioned a long time ago about the first run DRRI's having the fake polarity switch on the back and so i waited patiently for one with the switch and ended up with a may 94.

seems to me that after 2010 ish things went bad :(

That's exactly what I was thinking.
Thanks.

My dilemma is that I really like the HR DLX3, mainly because of it's super clean nature.
Mine is an FSR and has an Eminence Wizard speaker, which is quite nice as it tames the bright nature of the HR.

When the 68 CDR worked that one day I played both amps side by side and each one had it's positives.
The 68's bassman tone circuit has an amazing tone clean, but it's better than the HR with a distortion pedal plugged in.
The 68 w/pedal is a fuller tone.
Still, the HR DLX is also quite nice with pedals, if I didn't have them side by side I can easily accept it.

As you know the 68 CDR doesn't have mid controls on either channel, and it doesn't have an effects loop, whereas the HR DLX3 has mid control and a nice effects loop.
I don't care much for the HR's distortion channel so for me I use it like a single channel.

Both are made in Mexico, which is perplexing considering the price point of the
68 CDR as it's only $100 less than the 65 DRRI, which is made in the US.
Fender says that both the 68 and 65 are made of the same cabinet materials in the same manner. I can't verify that, but I'll take their word for it.

My dilemma is, do I keep the HR DLX3 and return the CDR?
Or, return the HR and get a new replacement 68 CDR?
I really don't want both as I also have a powerful 120 watt high gain head and 2x12 cab for that sort of thing.

I'm interested in your opinion on this.
Thanks.

My bad. Yes, it is a '68 Custom Deluxe Reverb, "vintage modified" series.

Let's see....a broken CDR, or a working HRDlx......Hmmmm.....that sure is a tough call.

I'm positive that I wouldn't risk a dime on one.

Yes, that is obvious.
Good thing I wasn't considering that option.

Keeping a broken CDR is not in question.

Relevant wording:
"My dilemma is, do I keep the HR DLX3 and return the CDR?
Or, return the HR and get a new replacement 68 CDR?
