The strings were old in that video. But after i changed them, it was still there.

Will try the tube swaps soon.

Low ... what is low ?

What is the height from pole piece to string ? You must fret string at last fret and read inches

5-6mm above the pickguard. That's where it sounds the best, for me.

I dont have any flat rulers with the 0mm at the tip.

ok... back to pick attack. Try fingerpicking. If you can't get the same noise riding on top of the initial notes, it's prolly your pick and plucking style. 1.2mm are pretty darn thick. You ever try a nickel or quarter? Try it and see if the "noise" gets worse.

I've always used 88's (0.88mm) Tortex. And 10's strings. Sometimes 9's. I bet you may use heavier strings with that 1.2mm pick.

The 12AY7 may tame the gain a bit, as it sounds like you are going into momentary clipping with your present amp setup --- during those initial strikes --- using the 12AX7 in the input stage. You want the input stage to go into OD slowly and not clip so quickly. So, the 12AY7 or even a 12AT7 could give you a bit more room, in this stage. Worth a try.

Good luck! Keep us posted.

I do indeed use heavy strings.. NOT because i believe in the "tone" of heavier/lighter strings or anything at all. I just want the strings to sit still and dont go out of tune when i hit them.
When i broke my finger last winter, i learnt that. I had to go back to 10's.

In the video i posted, i am playing with my fingers most of the time. When i play in A, at the start i use the pick a little, and then switch to fingerpick. When i get down to E, it's mostly the pick.

The 12AY7 got the gain down and the thump is virtually gone.
I think i like that 12AY7 in there. Will crank it up tomorrow and hear the difference.

The "thump" btw, is only noticeable when the volume is around 2-3. I have actually never played this amp lower than 3. And probably wont in the future..

It just struck me, 2 out of 4 Jensen P12R speakers have been changed out for Jensen NEO 10-100's.

There's a 5dB difference between the 2 speakers.

http://www.rock-gear.de/en/Guitar/Ampli ... 0-100.html

http://www.jensentone.com/vintage_alnico/p10r

Will this cause the Thump noise? I dont think it makes sense that it would cause it, but i may be wrong.

Your thoughts?

P.S still have the 2 changed out P12R speakers boxed up.

Put the original Jensen P10R (right? Not P12R) back into the amp and try it out.

Please post results.

Thanks! :D

You might check to insure that all four speakers are correctly phased together. That is, wired in parallel with all of the "+" terminals connected to one another and all of the "-" terminals likewise configured.

This noise is either the AlNiCo speaker compression, the rectifier sag (yes, you've told me it is not, but it has got to be!), culprit in the amp (oh god please no), or my playing.

I switched another P10R, (so it's 2 Neo 10-100, 1 P10R and 1 Celestion V30, and the thump is minimal.

My playing wont change, i just cant. If it comes down to my playing, i must switch amp.

Took out the V30 and made it 2x 10-100 and 2x P10r's and I tried the 2 ohm cab with my JTM45 and there is no thump there..

Was looking around the amp to see any obvious faults; blown resistors or anything.

Then i started checking the ribbon cables from all the front panel controls and i notice THIS.

Image

Yeah.

Lifted up the cable and saw this.

Image

I bent it so it would fit the connector again.. I also followed the trace and it's connected to the Vibrato intensity control!

Put the amp back together and there is no trace of the thump. Still using the 12AY7 in V1.
