I have read up alot on the whole SS rectifier thing and almost everywhere there is info about them, it says that i need to make sure that the voltage on the caps can handle the extra volts the SSR provides and the caps shouldnt be old and weak.

There will be a clip coming up. Im not sure how well it will pick up or if it even will.

OK... do you have a capacitor tester? Say one that came with a Fluke or some such DVM? ?

Sorry but Fluke or many other tester are not capacitor tester, just capacitance reading . To check capacitor you need charge and discharge voltage test.

Some tester like the old Heatkit IIT 28 do a complete test. I'm lucky to have one at home .

Most of the time, value are good but capacitor did not work or did not work properly

Tested with a EV12L and it massively reduced the thump. It's there, but very vague.

Just wondering here, Are you using any pedals ? My DRRI and my Twin have a similar thump just before the note when My compressor is cranked up.
sounds very similar to your description.

The thump is more noticeable on the inbetween positions on the strat. (2 and 4.)

I seem to have that problem. Something is compressing, causing the note to go "BUP".

Sorry for the sloppy playing, but it's all for the demonstration of the thump. This was literally 40 minutes after i woke up.

The thump is most noticeable when i switch to the 2nd position.

It sounds like this maybe pre-amp tube issue. And not a tube going bad, but the way this tube is reproducing your pick attack, maybe a tad too hot.

Several thing you could try. Do you have a lighter weight pick? Or try fingerpicking. See if that removes a bit of the "edge" to the attack.

When did you last replace the strings? Dead strings may need extra hard playing to get same volume and response to articulations. This could make the "problem" more noticeable.

You can also try replacing V1 with a 5751 or 12AT7 and see if this tames the attack tone. A nice 12AY7 maybe nice to try. Any 12A(_)7-type tube with less mu than the 12AX7 will work for this experiment. Plug into NORMAL channel with the substitute tube and then VIBRATO channel with stock tube setup. Crank Vibrato and Reverb pots to zero. Any difference in response?

There is one other thing about the reissued amp that I've heard. Do you have the BRIGHT switch activated? Try switching on-&-off to check amp's response. The ceramic disc used in the BRIGHT circuit in some of these re-issued amps aren't the greatest quality. Affecting the upper mid and high end tones more than lower notes.

Good luck! Keep us posted.

Hmmm, sounds to me like it's related to the way you pluck the strings. Very aggressive plucking if you ask me....just my 2c.

Is my plucking really that hard?

I use 1.2mm picks.. They're realistically 1mm picks after some use. I need something to hold on to, that wont flop around..

I changed the strings after i did the video.. Broke a D string 20 minutes after that. Got a NOS 12AY7 i will try in the vibrato channel.

Bright switch is almost always on! It does help with the thump, having it off though.

I will try the lower gain tube. Hope the tone stays, though.

You pluck very hard or strings are very very old ?

Pickups are to close to your strings if you pluck hard ?

Pickup height is low!
The strings were old in that video. But after i changed them, it was still there.

Will try the tube swaps soon.
