I've have been rustled by this for a long time and now is the time to ask for help/directions.

When i pluck or hit the high e, G or B string hard, there is a big thump sound following the note. I can make a quick video and post it if you need to hear it to determine what's going on.

Is this the sag happening?

My Tube rectified JTM45 does not do this, nor does my SS rectified Blues Deluxe.

Bought it brand new and not even unboxed spring 2014.

No mods at all. I can return it on warranty.
Things that i have done is replaced all the GT tubes with NOS tubes.

Bias is also correct.

Did the amp do that with original tubes and bias ?

Did you try to plug it in other speaker cab ?

I would suggest trying a different guitar as well to see if it still happens. Could be the set up on the guitar.

+1

When somebody tell it have problem with amp , we hope it is not his guitar or the gear plugged to the amp .....

He must do some basic tests

+2

Before the problem can be identified, it must be isolated.

Guitar?

Input cable?

Effects devices (if any)?

Patch cables?

Amp?

Speaker?

Cabinet?

A non-quantifiable variable within the listening area?

Each must be examined in order to eliminate them.

And you don't get this "thump" on low E string?

Try one thing, pull all the tubes and spray contact cleaner on the pins and sockets. Fit the tubes in a couple of times to work the cleaner into the contact. See if this helps.

Good luck. Keep us posted.

I have done alot of testing now.

I've (guitar straight to amp):
Put the original tubes in and biased.

Rolled the preamp tubes with alot of new/nos ones.

I have not tried it in a new cabinet, because 2 ohm cabinets is rare, in my home.

Les Paul with Humbuckers does the same thump sound.

Put amp in another room.

I do, if i pluck it REALLY hard.

All of this did no good, it still gets the thump.
Are you guys sure it isnt the Tube Rectifier doing this?

I cant unfortunately post a video showing the thump, because the camera mic will not pick it up.

You have another good rectifier you can try? Easiest way to rule-out potential problem.

You know, it sounds like main filter caps. Ghost notes and oddball harmonics are sometimes due to caps starting to dry out and fail. Esp during sustained notes and hard plucking. How old are the 'lytic caps?

I have another rectifier of the same type that's in my JTM45, that was the next step on my to-do list on fixing the thumpy.

Well, i've looked inside on the PCB and it's a 2013, so a year old? I know that they're the small, gray, boring, IC caps in the tin pan.

Caps that looks exactly like this:

If the main filter caps look exactly like the photo, that would be not good. Two of the four have "pimples" on the edge and corrosion leaking onto the leads. Those in the photo need replacing.

Nooo-nono.

That's just how they look like.. You know.. The outside!

Mines are all good. No pimples, no bulges, no black spots no nothing.

If you look at the top left cap, that's how exactly how mine looks.
