Ive been taking a slow and well researched look at swapping out the Celestion V Type speaker in my Fender 68 CDRR.

The automatic tendency for most people when it comes to changing the speaker in their Fender amp it seems is to stay within the Fender tone camp and buy a Weber Vintage 12f150 or similar. However these modern Vintage modified amps are not classic Fender amps obviously and so while excusing the subjective tone (ha ha) of this question, how ludicrous is it to go to a British/European styled speaker for use in a modern Fender Amp?

The speakers I have been listening to and that I like the most are:

ASW KTS-70
ASW Alnico ELegante
Celestion Gold
Weber 12A150

None of these except the Weber give classic Fender Vintage tone. But still I ask how redundant or foolish is it to go with a British/European voiced speaker in a modern Fender amp?
I love the Fender tone but I like a ton of other tones too.
Thanks

Or an extension 112 cab with a British flavored speaker and the Weber in the '68. Coupled with a a/b box you'll have the best of both worlds.

I put an Eminence Red Fang 10" speaker in my SCX2 and it sounded really good but, I know have a lil buddy hemp cone in there. I love hemp cone tone. Might try the Weber 10" hemp alnico at some point. I liked the alnico RF alot, so I think a hemp alnico might be what I am looking for.

Billy Penn at 300guitars puts Eminence Wizard speakers (British voice) in his Fenderish amps as a stock speaker. Different cabs is how I will address my speaker fetish in the future.

I have an HR DLX3 FSR in red/black that comes with the Eminence Wizard.
It's got a very nice tone. Not as sparkly and chimey as the stock HR DLX speaker, which is a Celestion G12P-80.
The Wizard tone is somewhere between that Celestion and a V30.
I have a 2x12 cab with V30's and I plugged the HR into it to test it out.
Sounds great with V30's. It's not as much a classic Fender clean tone but sounds great anyway.

I'm thinking of putting in a Jensen C12K along with 1 V30 in the cab to try it with my new 68 Custom DLX Rev. Should be a cool mix with a classic chimey and bright Jensen with a darker/warmer mid of the V30.
68 should be here in a few days. :)
Got a GREAT deal on a new one from GC. Very excited to get it.
