That sucks about your amp, mine doesnt hiss at all. I do get a hum from the foot switch if i leave on the floor close to the amp, i read some were there not grounded?? But I have steel poles and a computer right near by so it may be that. Over all I love the amp and run dirt pedals, it sounds #$@*&!% great! Might be your house if your buddys more quiet.

My 68 Custom Twin Reverb also has this hiss. I used an ECC823 (reverse 12DW7, on half 12AX7 and the other half 12AU7) tube in V4 and it quieted the hiss considerably, but it's still very apparent. The issue appears to occur right before V4.

Anybody have any ideas how to eliminate it completely? Could this be a simple part swap? Lead dress?

Anybody contact Fender about it?

FedEx is much better than United Package Smashers, by far.

I can't remember the last time that I got a package from UPS that wasn't damaged. FedEx on the other hand, hasn't damaged any that I've received.

I use to do shipping and seen a many of crushed boxes come in:( they just throw them on the truck. UPS hires people for low wages to load trucks by hand, they bust there $@! but they dont care as long as it gets loaded. Read the fragile signs huh! I labeled many of boxes with fragile stickers and some companys prb dont even do that.

I had the same hiss problem as others. I bought mine online and went through 2 of them and gave up. The hiss was loud and unusable. I wasn't about to start tweaking on the amp and screw up a warranty, plus I shouldn't have to.

I originally owned a real 68 Silverfaced Deluxe with a JBL in it. What glorious tone. I had high hopes for this one. It wasn't my imagination. I have heard a lot of people complain about the same thing. Fender is still mum about it. When they realize they have a problem, they should come online and discuss what they are doing to correct the issue. I would have had a lot more patience with them if I had seen something like that. I still have not heard a darn thing anywhere about fixing the issue, except that some are getting quiet amps and others aren't.

Most hiss in new amps comes from tubes that don't have enough vacuum. When an electron tries to leave the cathode for the plate, but runs into a molecule of air, it ionizes the molecule and sends it crashing back into the cathode due to its positive charge. The heavy ion hit the cathode, producing shot noise that you hear as hiss.
Pulling tubes from V1 to V5 will give you an idea of which tube is the culprit.
Yes, I know its a new amp and shouldn't hiss. Welcome to tubes. Get used to it. It's not easy to drive high performance off the showroom floor. Low noise JJ gold label tubes are the lowest noise production tube. Get one to try it out.

All of the '68 Custom Series amps have less negative feedback. This causes two things: Earlier breakup amd more noise.

I have a 68 Princeton Custom that is quiet as a church mouse. I swapped out tubes with JJs and it’s been pretty quiet since.

Installing a set of quality bottles will improve the performance of any contemporary tube amp.

No doubt. I cant tell you how many times Ive bought amps over the years where the noise issues was tubes. A new guitar amp should come with perfect tubes right out of the box , but a lot of times they dont. I always have a fresh set on hand just for such things and of course for tube rolling as well.
