Next step:

Build a proper speaker cable and throw out that cheap thing Fender puts on the DRRI's

Image

multi strand semi heavy gauge and a proper right angle plug (nos)

And finally !

Image

First thoughts on the Kendrick in the DRRI
Way less efficient ! 3/4 of a step up to reach the same volume
Way Smoother sounding, rich full but not near the authority
Break up is way sooner !!!
I'm thinking somewhere in between (C-rex) is probably a better bet
using my route 66 comp only I cant get past 3 before it into OD, now that being said the OD tones are to die for !!!! but thats 5E3 territory breaking up that soon.
Thats after ten minutes of playing so..........

Gonna try the Tonker tomorrow
The Kendrick just doesn't have the Authority in the low end that I personally like
and that is exactly why I went back to Blackface amps so........

Kendrick Brown frame = Tweedy goodness, lower efficiency than c12n type speakers
maybe in the range of C12Q ??? or R ?

I'll try the Brown frame with my VHT special 6 head, I'll bet it will sound pretty cool there.

And finally after having tried a few and then some I broke down and ordered the tried and true Swamp Thang.
I know I like them in Blackface Fenders !

Ever thought about alnico speaker in this amp. I like these speakers in 6V6GT amps. Maybe, a P12R clone? The Weber 12A125?

Just a thought.

I had a 12A150 in one a few years back and it was amazing.
Guess I'm just too cheap to spend 200 plus on a speaker
I know the 12a125 is well liked in 5E3 amps, not sure if the description fits the drri ???

I've had a Weber cookin' in a PR clone for a year and a half. It's the 12" Alnico(12A150 light dope). Wouldn't consider a swap....It's very versatile.... It's response to the Strat's tone and volume controls is outstanding!!!! Art

Ya can't fault the Swamp Thang for classic fender tones, really for the price it is excellent !
Big Bold and Bouncy ! with a clean enough top end to make most folks pretty happy.

and hey another summer is almost over and i didn't play out one time so.......
My job owns me.
Another day older and deeper in debt as they say, well not the debt part, I'm doing my very best to owe no man ! and it is a much more peaceful life let me tell ya.

The Swamp Thang is installed and I remember why I love that speaker, can't get much fuller and richer tones than that !
Bottom is tight and authoritative
Top end is absolutely Sweet !!!
If your on the fence about a speaker for your DRRI , trust me the Swamp Thang is worth a try !
Awesome, made me want to sit and play all day.

For the DRRI, do you think that the Swamp Thang is better than the Italian Jensen that comes in the newer DRRI?

I had two drri's with the Italian Jensens and wasn't crazy about them, one got a C-Rex and the other a Swamp Thang, I had a 50 Bassman ltd with Italian Jensens and swapped them for Webers cheaper line of 10's and the difference was amazing.
I have yet to play a Jensen wanna be that I enjoyed so..........

I do believe the Swamp Thang was a Huge improvement over this Emi / Fender speaker and willing to bet you would be glad you tried one !

Keep in mind that i also have a sweet pair of RCA 6V6Gt and just as amazing preamp tubes in this girl, including a nos 5751 in V-2 (first gain stage for reverb channel)
Tubes and speakers go a LONG way in improving the DRRI !
I'm also glad I went back in and put the silver mica cap in C-10 !
