Just couldn't help it !
The guy was the original owner and it never left his house.
The reverb was screeching and it sounded iffy at best and so I got it for a song :D
Got it home and within an hour I had it belting out some oh so sweet tones and got the volume all the way up to about 2.3 before stuff started to fall off the shelf nearby 8)

It had a wonky (term meaning iffy) 12AX7 and the reverb tank had one of the small suspension springs broken, the real difference was the bias / hum balance was soooo far out of spec on the new power tubes the guy had put in it that its a wonder it worked at all.

Now I have an absolute tone monster ! seriously I'm a fan of this amp, Don't believe the garbage ya hear about these amps, when properly set up and maintained they sound as good as any Fender Twin I've ever played !

Good pickup. All the 'lytics in the PSU look ok? Looks heavy and loud.

:D

Biggest problem with this amp is, it takes two men and a mule to move it. Nice score, congrats.

Blues...Long time no hear from! Nice score, you will never hear me say anything bad about these amps, the only real fault is input jacks, they have a habit of getting "Loose". But you are more than capable of keeping it maintained.

Enjoy your new very loud toy! Good to see you on here again. Hope the house is coming along.

Glad to hear that you got yourself a real air-mover, Chris !!! That amp has a bias and matching set-up? Still workin' on the 6SN7 stash. Thanks again!!! I'd forgotten the depth of a Twin Reverb. But one came in a couple of weeks ago, for power tube R&R and maintenance. It's still in the house, and yeah, it can really shake the dust out of the boards of this old place!!! Keep Pickin' !!!! Thanks for the replies
Lets just say I have a pinched nerve in my neck that started the day after pulling this monster from the trunk of my Maxima (should have used the Cherokee) !
and several friends  Us former (old guys) power weight lifters will never learn !
I'm still benching 400 plus in my mind LOL !!!!
and several days later I'm still unable to move my neck very well

As far as tone, I'm floored by the depth and power of this thing !!!
I've heard some say it sounded great but not Fenderish ??? I absolutely disagree, its about as Classic Fender as you can get.

A quick question for you guys while we are here, I got a 1994 DRRI a while ago, yesterday I pulled the Pots board, removed the C-10 (bright cap) and cleaned the pots.
have any of you put a different value cap in C-10 ??? 27pf or lower ?
I just wondered if a nice silver mica 27pf would add enough sparkle without being harsh ???

Looks like a fantastic amp. I love my red knob dual showman which is effectively the same thing sans reverb. Nice find and enjoy!

I am absolutely blown away at the potential tone of this amp !
If you consider all the flak they take online you would think they sounded awful.
My guess is that its all about the huge change in cosmetics that have most of the nay sayers carrying on !
I've owned real twins (silver face) a reissue 65 and this is just as good as any I've played, Deep hard low end with Tons of authority !!!

But the red knobs and funky colored grill cloth I could live without

Thankfully Our very own custom restorer here (Arjay) gave me the 411 on stretching new grill cloth and I've gotten pretty good at it !

I bought one of these new in 1989 and love it. Can anyone recommend a new amp to buy that would have similar tone and features?

Thank you for the reminder. I want a newer model cause the parts availability keeps getting tougher and there are fewer people who can work on the oldies. Doesn't have to be a Fender...thank you again.
