Anyone swapped out speakers on their 68 Custom Deluxe Reverb Reissue? What did you swap it with and how do you like it? Ive been eyeing a Weber 12F150. The stock Celestion G12V-70 speaker is on the bright side for me. The Celestion is a 70 W and the Weber is a 50 W so Im hoping to get a natural breakup at lower volume and a warmer less chimy tone.

I never put much stock in the Celestion G12V-70 to begin with so I'm not surprised that you found such an OEM choice to be sonically-lacking. The Weber 12F150 would be a good replacement or, if you prefer a warmer and smoother OD with earlier compression, their alnico 12A150.

I wonder how the Celestion Blue or Gold Alnico would compare to the Weber 12A150 Alnico?

Go with the Gold -- the Celestion Blue is only rated for fifteen watts. I'd fry that thing just tuning my guitar!

ANd...just came across a website for Austin SPeaker Works. Looks interesting but no tone clips.

Weber 12A150 alnico is a very efficient speaker. The 12F150 is even more efficient. If you want more air pushed per watts, these are good speakers. If you want earlier OD in the volume range, less efficient speaker maybe the way to go.

JMO. Good luck with your search.

No I wasn't able to test one.. I made my decision based on reviews and clips I was able to listen to. A bit of a gamble but such is life.

Buying a speaker sight unseen (or more precisely, tone unheard) is always a crap-shoot. Bear in mind -- any new speaker from any manufacturer will need adequate break-in time before its true sonic nature can be discerned. Give it at least 40 hours of play before rendering a judgment.

Not being able to try one first would have applied to any speaker I purchased. IM looking forward to see how it sounds.

Post us your review. Speaker assessments with specific amps are good.

Will do. I don't see many people using this speaker in Fender AMps so Im very keen to see how it sounds. Ive heard nothing but good things about it though.
