Bought an item from Sweetwater Sound, they say free shipping, no hassle return policy, So I try to return an item and the invoice they sent me with the RA # says $11.07 less than I paid. No other music store ever did that to me. I of course paid the return shipping/insurance because I simply did not like the item, it was not defective. So it was on me to pay the return shipping.

Just sayin

Tacky......very tacky.

Did you happen to call and inquire why they nicked you for eleven bucks?

:?

Sorry to hear about your experience, DBM, but it looks like this one falls under the Fine Print Department (which isn't all that fine, really). Sweetwater's website has the return policy clearly outlined:

"No Hassle" Return Policy:

We want you to be completely happy with your purchase. If you are not satisfied with any product, for any reason, you may return it for a refund of the purchase price, an in-house credit, or exchange for another product within a fair amount of time from the shipping date (usually 30 days). If your purchase was eligible for free shipping, the shipping cost will be deducted from your credit or refund."

I forgot to ask if the item had been sent to you with "free shipping". If yes, then they would deduct a shipping charge from your refund; if no, then you certainly have a legitimate beef.

Yep it is right there in print. My bad for not reading it. Still I won't purchase from them again because the other on line stores never did that to me.

My bad. I never read the return policy which clearly states if the item is shipped free, they will deduct the original shipping from the refund. Now that I know that I will do my buying from the other on line stores. Actually Amazon has the best return policy. They send you a prepaid shipping label and refund your credit card the same day you ask to return it. And you can buy musical instruments from Amazon and their partner resellers.

I'll stick with Sweetwater, great service, products, and prices, upfront policies (no surprises). I think that you paid a very reasonable price to try something and then return it simply because you didn't like it.

Considering that the restocking fee was in fact mentioned in the not-so-fine print I now tend to agree. I've purchased from Sweetwater in the past as well but as yet never had need to return an item and they always dealt honestly and treated me pretty courteously. Quite a contrast from the shlubs at Musician's Foe.

It does seem like MF is the "slow" brother of GC (I know that they are the same company, or affiliated). Having a personal rep at SW is very nice.

Same here, if I order something on-line, I try to be sure it is something that I know I want. I can't remember returning anything from an on-line order, except the occasional defective tube, an then I still eat the return shipping, if I have to send it back (sometimes they just send a new one with no return required). For trying out something, I just go to a local store, usually GC....and yes, deal with someone knowledgeable.

I bought a gig bag from MF and when I got it the guitar didn't fit. Called MF up told them it didn't fit the person on the phone asked if I was told it would. I said yes. No problem, they took it back and paid for return shipping and gave all my money back and did not deduct for the free shipping. Then gave me a 10% discount on a case I knew would fit and shipped that for free too.

They gave me a pass on it this time and refunding the full price. So I told the Sweetwater guy I would still continue to purchase things I am sure I want.

That sounds like SW alright! I forgot to mention that they do go out of their way to make customers happy. My last on-line order listed free shipping, but when I placed the order there was a shipping charge. One call to my rep and it was changed. He said that it was a mistake listing the free shipping, but gave it to me anyway since it was their mistake. :D

I was surprised to see something negative about Sweetwater, and it looks like they've made good here in the end. Now that's good customer service.

So I just pulled the trigger on a Digitech RP155, ninety nine bucks from Amazon + free shipping. It has a tuner and is a full modeler so I can tweak till my hearts content on the only patch I would use in it, 6"x8"x 2" and it will fit nicely in my pedal board eliminating the need for a tuner stomp but still needing the line switcher.
