Thanks everyone, so far I'm really enjoying this amp. But I had to put a wee but off work into it.

Arjay,
Yup, vintage 12t6. Had that reconed by OCS a while back and it was sitting waiting for the right transplant patient. Although I never got to hear the original Oxford speakers, I must say that this oxford sounds very nice. Maybe due to the recone.

Anyhow, hers the story. I'll try to keep it short. After scouring the local ads for some time I came across this one at Local pawn shop. So I walked in and asked if I could try it out. The owner set me up with a fender strat with dimarzio pickups and I gave it a good test run. Sounded flubby, dark, and the reverb didn't work. A quick inspection revealed that it had all original tubes and speaker. Serial number dated it to march of 1990.

I pointed out all the flaws to the owner and he agreed with me that I was looking to"invest" another two to three hundred bucks just to get it back to proper working condition. After all, what it's a deluxe reverb without any reverb. He told me to make him an offer. I came in really low expecting him to blow me off but instead he countered with a more than reasonable offer. I told him I had to think about it and he came down even more. That left me with no choice but to walk out with It, one last offer on my behalf and the deal was done.

So what did I do too it when I got it home. I immediately slapped in the Oxford and pulled the stock speaker, I retubed with eh 6v6, pulled v1, installed a gold lion ecc83 in v2, re biased, and last but not least, repaired a couple of broken wires in the reverb tank and re installed one of the springs that had come off. This baby sings now and the reverb works......life is good. :D :D

Negative.

Number one -- the first DRRI was not released until 1994 with trannies for those early amps dating to late 1993 (I have one of these first-year editions).

Number two -- initially, the DRRI was equipped with a faux ground/polarity switch on the rear panel -- connected to precisely nothing but there only for "mojo". This featured was deleted on the re-issues (DRRI and TRRI) circa 2005.

Interesting, I dated it based on the serial number, ACXXXXXX, but now after re reading the paragraph I need to look for the QA sticker. I have to agree with you though, I didn't notice the missing polarity switch in the rear.

DATING CONTEMPORARY FENDER AMPLIFIERS
All Fender amplifiers manufactured from 1990 to the present include a date code, printed on the quality assurance (QA) sticker on the back of the amp chassis. This black-and-silver sticker contains several lines for “sign-offs” on completion of sound and electrical testing. The final line contains a date code of two printed or handwritten letters denoting the amplifier’s production date by year (the first letter) and month (the second letter).

In the table below, for example, a “CE” date code indicates a production date of May 1992.

YEAR
MONTH
1990 A January A
1991 B February B
1992 C March C
1993 D April D
1994 E May E
1995 F June F
1996 G July G
1997 H August H
1998 I September I
1999 J October J
2000 K November K

December L

The "AC" serial prefix denotes an amp made in the Corona, California plant. The first DRRI's were built at the old Sunn facility in Lake Oswego, Oregon and are prefixed like mine as "LO". I believe production was transferred to California around 1997. My trannies all date to between the 33rd and 46th week of 1993. I no longer have the original cab so I have no idea how the QA sticker was marked.

Dunno about that. But, "Innuendo" = Italian Suppository.

BMW2002Ti,

By the way, thanks again for turning me on to those Gold Lions. Those along with a good 5751 and the sovtek lps have become some of my favorite preamp tubes.

I see it, on the back of the amp, right side, on the chassis. The letters on the last line are the ones for the date code.
