Hi

Just wondering if anyone has played one of these and if there is much difference in tone between the normal reissue?

Seeing that nobody answered, I don't have any hands on experience w/this particular model, but it seems identical to the DRRI LTD model w/the alnico speaker, & same as the '65 DRRI with the exception of the speaker. There would a difference in tone from the standard DRRI due to the speaker. Main difference though is cosmetics. If I were in the market for one I would definitely consider one, Although I would consider the '68 custom Deluxe as well & I believe they're a bit cheaper. Sorry I'm not much help.

The alnico P12Q will likely sound much warmer and deliver a creamier, more organic OD tone than the standard 100-watt C12K (I never quite understood the logic in that speaker choice for the standard DRRI).

Agree about the better drive tone of the P12Q speaker, but my experience they have a hard time keeping up onstage sometimes.
Would be nice to have drri avail in a 2x12 and switch between the two.

I can tell you that my special edition wine red drri.......I took out the P12Q and threw in the most efficient speaker available (Emmy Wizard) because I wanted the Xtra volume.
Got that and clean headroom in spades.

Cool thanks for your input. I have been a Fender supporter for years. I have had Supers a Hot Rod and Twin . I Still have my 59 Bassmman which I still love from the day heard it.I have been considering a 65 Deluxe to replace a Blues Junior with a C Rex speaker that I had. I have also been looking at a few Dr.Z models and a few Victoria models. The Fender FSR Intrigued me.Hence the post. It feels almost sacrilegious looking at another brand other than Fender.

You want to move some *SERIOUS* air with a DRRI?

Try a 15-inch JBL......

No, not after I built an all-new cabinet three inches taller.

It's the world's loudest 22-watt Fender amp and it sounds like frying bacon smells......very tasty.

Curious. How do you rate that in your arsenal to gig with? Does it keep up in most situations?

It's never let me down and it's been periodically paired against a SRRI, a Vox AC30TB, and some Blackheart combo thingie with two 10's.

That particular speaker is about 45 years old.

JBL left the musical-instrument speaker field completely circa 1985.
