Mowgli, if NOS price is no object. And what is advertised is what you get, I go for Brendan at Tube World. Right now, he has no good NOS RCA matched pair of smoked glass, black plate RCA's. But, has a nice matched pair of Sylvania VT-107A. These are WW2 era mil spec tube. I've use the Sylvania and Ken-Rad VT-107A in about five amps, now. They are very good tubes. As good as any 1950's era RCA black plates.

He also has some nice 6V6GTY mil spec tubes. I really like these tubes. They have the brown micanol low-loss base. Very similar to the micanol used in Amphenol sockets.

Good Hunting!

Yes I left he tubes in for at least 15 minutes and I tried swapping the positions. One tube is 8mA lower than the other.

15 minutes is too short for new modern tubes , but your tubes are vintage second hand , they where use before ?

What kinda tester did the seller use? And when was it last calibrated? As you know, regular TT's test output (power) tubes at much lower plate voltages and cathode bias reading --- than what the tube will see in most amps.

So, it is possible that the tubes tested as "matched" in say a Hickok or B&K TT, but not be matched at voltages and idle currents in an amp. I only know of Amplitrex TT's that test at near amp conditions. At least in testers available to the public. I test all output tubes in an amp that takes the specific tube. Idle bias readings in a real amp is most closest to real life conditions in similar amps using the same tube type.

Anyhow, on Tube World site, the "International" branded Raytheon 6V6GTA shows promise. I believe that these are Japanese 1960's era, Toshiba made using Raytheon jigs. They are very good tubes. As are the Matsushita made GZ34.

Seller just told me that his tester only tests up to a max of 350v. My pv runs at around 440. He has offered fro send me another set but are we throwing darts since his tester does not test at the same voltage as my amp? Other sets he sold me came in as matched on my amp.

I have tryed 6V6 GT RCA NOS and various 6V6 ... But i found that the best tubes to have the beast sound was thr 6V6 s and set your Bias low at 12ma it will have te best sounding reaction like that,, normaly with the other deluxe reverb i had in the past Black face vintage original 65 the bias was around 22ma... I found that the custom 68 like it way lower than that... I use the JJ6V6s and Groove tubes 6V6s only... ;)
:D
