I have been playing this amp for about 7 or 8 years on a semi daily basis. Today I started it up to do my daily practice, and it lost all of it's tone and most of it's volume. I tried taking everything out of the signal chain, no change, I tried a new guitar wire, no change I tried another speaker and speaker wire no change. Man oh man this is my all time favorite amp, I hope it can be fixed. It is a Mexican Version II I guess. I have other tubes I can try out, old ones that worked well but had a rattle. Does this sound like a tube issue? If so, pre or power?

It could be a pre-amp bottle but at that age, it's more likely to be a power-tube issue. Try swapping them out with another pair and see if the volume/tone problem persists.

Thanks for your reply amigo. I have some old tubes that worked when I took the out and that will tell the tale I suppose.

Was there any improvement after re-installing the original tubes?

I put in the original power tubes, and bingo it worked. Then I plugged my pedal board back in and the same thing, loss of volume/tone, so I started swapping wires around and it seemed to be the input wire into the volume pedal. So I put back the JJ tubes and went direct from guitar to amp, and it works as it always did before the trouble. Then I plugged back in the pedal board, and it did not work again, so I changed the wire and it worked as it always did. I also removed the volume pedal which I no longer need, and took that out of the signal chain. I will use the HRD tomorrow and Tuesday for my daily practice and see how it performs. So far the indications are. It was pre amp input. Either the wire or volume pedal. (fingers crossed)

However I did swap out wires yesterday and went direct from guitar to amp and it did not work as well as it always did. I am hoping it is the wire, but it may be a tube socket connection as I shoved the tubes in and out, which would reconnect any solder connections temporarily at least. We shall see

Thanks Arjay.....

Por favor, disculpe mi español, no se llega a la práctica con mucha frecuencia.

I practiced with it yesterday, It may have been bad contact between tubes and sockets, it may have been the guitar wire. I am not sure, and will continue to use it for practice over the next few days.

Thanks for the help and encouragement......

Monitor the amp's performance and note any further sonic anomalies.

It seems OK Arjay, played it today and it acts like it always did. II am letting the amp cool down then using some contact cleaner on the tube prongs and rubbing the tubes up and down in the sockets a few times to wear off any built up crud if there is any......

Thanks
